Do you put Champagne in the freezer?

you can put it in the freezer, but if you need it cold, fast, a much easier way to get it cold is to fill a container with ice (crush them for faster chilling), and then top it off with water. put the champagne bottle in it (make sure the container is over something to catch the excess, and that the ice reaches a good distance up the liquid).

works much better. and water retains the cold for a little bit afterwards, too.

what? i think he is correct in that it will burst overnight in the freezer.

Did I miss something I though heat expanded and cold contracted, well unless it freezes to ice.

Champagne is also mostly water. Look at the ice cubes in your freezer to see that water expands when it freezes. Do you think it won't freeze in a... ummm.... FREEZER?

The bottle may not violently explode, but you may find chards of green glass embedded in that nearby bag of frozen peas or the next chunk of meat you defrost.

alcohol doesnt freeze.

the suggestion witht he crushed ice in a bucket was a good one, but the poster forgot to mention salt. I have no idea why, but adding salt to the ice water will chill a bottle in 1/2 the time.

We have our champagne in the fridge, the glasses in the freezer and the blckaberries and chambord macerating nicely. Waiting for midnight!!

edit: if not for the three bottles of Pinot Grigio my we have polished off waiting for midnight, I might be able to spell!

haha, reminds me of this one time I scammed a bottle of Champange from my parents fridge (I think I was 14).

I had to stash it until they went out, then put it in the freezer to chill. When I took it out, I had a little trouble getting the cork out. I must've loosened it enough, though, because a couple of minutes later, walking across the room, the bottle exploded.

Managed to get a cup under the bottle just in time to catch one glass.

Some will depends what the % of alcohol is in it. Hard Liquor will freeze at a much lower temp than, beer, wine, champagne. Dont belive me, go put a can of beer in the freezer and see what happens.

Citrix is right, you can put hard liquor like rum and vodka in the freezer but anything under about 10% is likely to freeze.

Good Lord you people are dense. IT WAS A JOKE. Of course it's going to explode. It was a stupid question to begin with, deserving of a sarcastic reply. I think everyone has been spoiled by the roll-eyes smiley. If you don't put it after a sarcastic reply, everyone thinks you're serious.

I have a bottle of Colt 45 in my trunk (8%). Its -18C outside, and its still completely liquid. Its been out there for 3 days now.
