I just went out and tried this in my truck. I starter her up and after like 5 minutes of road testing, it started to stutter... WTF is going on ?!?!Originally posted by: her209

All the additives your oil and gas need are already in them, don't waste your money.

Fuel Injector cleaner occasionally. It DOES make a difference.
I put that in once a year..

Do NOT add anything to your oil. If you change your oil and filter it will stay clean. DON'T use fram oil filters, and use 10W30 year round (unless it is real cold then use 5W30) I use 10W30 Mobil in my cars and truck(every 3K). My parents Z28 gets 10W30 Mobil1 (Every 5K)

uh-oh... whats wrong with fram oil filters
I totally disagree here, except for the teflon part.Originally posted by: Eli
You should never add anything to your oil. Seriously. They spend a LOT of money on R&D for the formulations of their oil.. It's not just oil. There are tons of additives..Originally posted by: Goosemaster

No. Although fuel-additives are better than oil additives. You should never add anything to your oil.
As others have pointed out, the oil companys spend R&D $$ on the formulations of their oil. If you add something else, there's no telling what it could do.
Octane booster, fuel injector cleaner, dry-gas and fuel stabilizer are all OK, as long as you really need them.
oh....maybe i was talking about gas then...i am reffering to the engine cleariner.....it ahs been a while since i used one.
Detergency
Anti-foam
Viscosity Index improvers
Anti rust/corrosion
Friction modifier additives
TBN/TAN modifiers..
and probably a lot more. When you add something to your oil, you have no idea how those chemicals will effect your oil as a whole. Chances are, it's going to do more harm than good.
NEVER put PTFE(teflon) into your engine.

I put gas drier (anti-freeze) in my gas during the winter months as it gets pretty freaking cold up here.
Remember kids, all hydrocarbons from fossil sources have water in them.

What advantage does an oil company have by researching and making a far superior oil? Can they charge more? Not really, prices are determined more by the brands image.
I have done tons of block and pin friction tests with different oils and oils mixed with additives. Nothing performed better than Energy Release or Duralube. I know for a fact that additives are big in racing because they give the needed reduction in friction to prolong engine life or reduce overheating.
Alot of us are weary because of the shameless advertising, but there are decent products out there.
Myself? I use Amsoil now and change the oil and filter once a year. Once a year and the oil tests great everytime and it's the cleanest engine I've ever seen (a rebuit 4 year old 350). Why is Amsoil better than other synthetics? Because it has a different set of additives.
Now for the fuel additive. I tried some about a year ago and recorded a slight fuel mileage gain. The fuel injector cleaner is a good idea.
If you really want to clean out the system Snap-On sell a machine for about $3000 that hooks into the fuel rail and gives it a good cleaning. You can also get cheaper systems that hook into a vacuum line and they work just as well. Also use an intake spray, it does wonders for a simple aerosol can (be careful if you have a Ford though; some Fords have a plastic/chemical lined intake and some sprays will eat it away).
