Do you prefer wire or wireless networking?

Greetings:

Let assume that you need to purchase a router right now for your home networking. Which one will you buy, wire or wireless (802-11g)? What is the particular (speed, easy setup, reliable etc) reason for you to get either one?

Thank you for your feedback

Wired.

1) Speed - Still waiting on GBoA. :p
2) Stability - Unless someone brings vermin in to chew my wires, the network stays stable.
3) Setup - I can run my own wire.
4) Secure - Do I really need to say this? :p

I've had issues with wireless connecting between 2 nearby rooms :(
It loses connection easily. Not very fast transfer rate.

Wired hasn't had any issues for me yet, so it's good, but wireless is useful in some ways, when you have a laptop or something, which you want to be able to transport around the house.

All that said, the wired/wireless router we have has had its ADSL modem go belly up, so it's off to RMA it goes.

Wired.

Wireless is good in certian applications (new house where wiring isn't an option or where speed/security/reliablity isn't required, ie typical household family who doesn't know better or dorn't care), but wired is certianly my choice.

Both...

Wired obviously for stability and security.

Wireless for mobile clients. It's kind of pointless to have a PPC or NB and have to be bound by a data line. WLAN's are fast enough for surfing and administration. Leave the pushing/pulling to the wired clients.

Cheers!

Wired.

Though I will need both that and wireless if I get a notebook.

Depends. At home I used wireless for the most part (I'd wire up something if I needed to do some huge file transfer). I didn't need more than 5 Mbps (my Internet connection topped out at around 4 Mbps). Plus it allowed me to watch TV while on my laptop doing homework. Here at college I've only got my desktop and it's connected to an uber-fast Internet connection (30+ Mbps), so it's a no brainer to use wired.

To answer the specific question of right now, would I buy a wired or wireless router for my house, then I'd say wireless (well heck, I already did). Convenience tops speed for me.

don't have to choose. wireless routers have wires too. each has its uses. when possiblewire, as its superior in speed/reliability. laptops roaming around with wireless makes em far more useful

You may want to consider buying both. I think if I was going to buy a router today I might try getting a router with both wired and wireless capabilities if I could afford it. It might be a year or two from now that all motherboards will have wireless capabilities built into the chipset and the point would be mute. Personally I just bought mine at the time because wireless was in its infancy and I didnt really trust it and it frankly just cost more.

Poll?

Wired.

Reason: Online gaming, can't afford to have a connection that hiccups. I will be giving wireless another try, as soon as I get my laptop. Other than that, the home network stays wired and will probably get upgraded to Gigabit by the end of the year (Yes, I transfer very large files around!).

Wireless for my laptop, wired for my desktop.

NOTHING beats sitting on my balcony, managing my business, and sipping some ice tea without a 100ft cord tying me to a router in my bedroom.
