Do you prefer to solo in games like Eq2, WoW and GW's??

Hi Guys,

I bought a copy of EQ2 about a week ago, and i have been playing fairly regularly since.

I played the trial, and thought why not give the actul game a go. I am a LV20 Dark Elf Shadowknight.

I played GW's and i really enjoyed the style of play with the henchies, and the soloing aspects of the game. I only really grouped when it was absolutely necessary, as it was really not my thing.

The beauty of GW's was that you can solo everywhere and do almost every mission.

I am finding with EQ2, that the game is really designed to group. The missions in general are hard to solo, once you get to around the teen levels.

I will not be continuing, my subscription after the 30 days, due to the lack of advancement, and solo missions.

I don't begrudge, those people that like the group /guild thing, it's just not my style. I find the game to be tedious, and very boring to play, and certainly not solo friendly.

What style of play do you prefer??

I think i will be staying with FPS, definitely my style of gaming.

I only have GW out of those and I don't mind soloing, but I prefer group play. My biggest gripe with GW is how ridiculously hard it is to get people to quest with you. Theres so many quests its hard to find people wanting to do them with you. So I end up soloing and my char isn't anywhere near able to solo, so I kinda quit playing for that reason. I need to start a new char one of these days.

I solo'ed in eq2 to 46 and could do so until 55... You can still do a lot of quests solo and such. The peacock quest yields an amazing weapon and quite a few steps can be solo'ed , some grouped and only the last requires a raid.

You just might not be looking in the correct places for stuff to kill, its really not a bad game.

I usually prefer to solo. However, EQ2 does have a lot of solo content, you just have to know where to find it. And, obviously, some classes solo better than others. Soloing will take longer than grouping though.

I have GW and after my experience with forming groups for quests and missions on my first character, I prefer to do them solo whenever possible. The game was designed to encourage cooperative play, yet it seems like 3/4 of all groups formed involve at least one person that doesn't care to work as a team. They're too busy doing whatever it is that they want to do instead of coordinating their efforts with the rest of the group. In my experience it's also those same players that are argumentative, immature, and quick to blame others for any mistakes.....even if it was their fault. Luckily, I've been able to find a few good players with whom I can roam through the higher level areas and not have to worry about the aforementioned garbage, but until I get to those areas with other characters, it's henchmen for me.

I think there needs to be a balance between the two, and with non-combat options to fill in the cracks (eg. tradeskills). EQ1 had this balance spot-on for the first few years after its release, unfortunately it became a raidfest which other games have copied - it's easier to just design raid encounters than to worry about an immersive game world, interesting lore, complex tradeskills, etc.

I solo in WoW for grinding gold / mats for potions and the like, but for the most part, the game is much more fun when playing with others, specially of those others aren't idiots.

I prefer to group. I play multiplayer games so i can play with other people, not spend all day soloing.

I think most MMO's generally speaking are built for grouping.... and I don't mind that in general, however I do think there should also be some good solo content. Once upon a time I had all day and all night to play MMO's.. but now with 2 kids and work, etc, a lot of the time I don't have more than an hour or two to play and with the kids I may only play 15 minutes, be afk, be back for another 10 minutes and have to afk again.. so for those times I really can't group. Even if I did get a group quickly, if I had to go afk a lot because of the kids it's not really fair to that group that is being held back because of me, and even if I drop group or get booted then they have to take the time to find a replacement. So I really like to see good, fun solo content in a game. I don't think an entire MMO should be soloable though, just that there should be some content to go along with the group based stuff that you can do when you can't or don't feel like grouping.

I only like grouping with friends and guild members (if said member isn't an idiot).

As far as instances go, you have to group, and if I have no choice, then I'll group with people I don't know.
