Do you prefer Off-topic forums that have multiple sub-forums or OT forums without sub-forums

Curious to know your answer. Mention which forum you are talking about in your replies.

Two forums I am looking at are

a) ATOT obviously.
b) the Whirlpool forums: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-threads.cfm?f=80 (although not OT)

A good thing they have in the whirlpool forums is that they have categories in place of sub-forums. Check the link out to see what I mean.

Glad to hear fellow ATOTers thoughts 🙂

Nice, it's like GMail vs. other Webmail.

Labels vs. Folders 🙂

edit: Implement that here and we can all move on from 'Wrong Forum' to 'Wrong Label/Category'

Exactly. It solves the problem AT is having with the sub-forums. Does anyone know if this is possible with vBB?

While re-merging might benefit ATOT I don't see it benefiting the current subforums. They have developed their own identities and cultures and quite frankly don't need ATOT bullcrap.

I voted no. I think instead of OT subforums, the admin should implement tags. Tags would allow users to filter out posts that they are, or are not interested in. It would also give users the option to simply view all posts without having to visit multiple forums which IMO would make things much more convenient, that it would.

Does vBB have tags?

I think you are referring to what is set up here:

Sort of. I think somethingawful.com has a better tagging setup though.

No, biggest mistake ever was splitting up OT.

I remember when you could post a camera related thread in OT and have 50 views and 10-20 responses within minutes. You'd be lucky to get 50 views in a day posting a question in any of the consumer electronics forums. I suspect that there are many people, like myself, who could contribute something to those forums but the lack of traffic and/or interesting topics makes it more of a waste of time to keep checking in there.
