Do you prefer a manual or automatic transmission for your car?

I like my manual for several reasons:

Cheaper to buy and replace (a clutch costs a great less then a whole auto tranny)
More power or more economy, my choice and can switch in an instant
More control
It made me a better driver because I actuallyhad to learn to feel my car and not just point it down the road.

Plus its more fun!

I'd take an automatic that's seriously modded (high stall convertor, shift kit, Overdrive, lower first gear, strong clutches, etc etc etc)

i love manuals, but being practical and living in a crowded area, i would buy automatic 🙂

If I have a family, I would go for an automatic 4-door sedan.
Right now, I'm still single and I have a manual and I like it. 🙂

I really love manual transmissions, but commuting 80 miles a day (round trip) to NYC and then driving around to customer locations for 8 hours has made me go to automatic.
I'm also an old-fart with an artificial left hip. 🙁

Well, manual doesn't let you do stuff with your other hand. Can't hold a girls hand, change radio station, etc as easily. well, change radio station yea, but common. How you supposed to mess with your girlfriend if you gotta keep your hand on that tall round thing in the middle?

I want an Audi A6 MultiTronic 🙂

drove one once and it really is the best of both worlds... shift gears manually or let a computer do it for you... its not a normal auto but a CVT with unlimited number of ratios with presets for "manual" drive - oh and it goes fast to.. did 240KM/H on the autobahn: mucho fun. Other then that, I prefer a true manual trans.

Ummm have you ever used a manual? You only need to touch the shifter when you need to shift other then that your free to do what ever you want. I drink, change CDs, shave, read a book, do my laundry etc without any problems.

BTW another vote for manual. The main reason I bought my Xterra was because it was one of the few SUVs with a manual.

manumatic.

all my cars have been stick so far, but i despise traffic, yet im stuck in it much of the day as its part of my job. working the clutch can be tiring in traffic after 2-3 hours. The shifter is another story.

i love it tho.

unless im dirt ass poor when i take my next job, ill get a car with a manumatic.
