Do you play with AA/AF?

Results are pretty predicable, and they make me wonder why any benchmark results ever include "pure speed" tests, since no one cares.

I use AA only if I've maxed out my resolution and I still have power to burn.

AA is just as mandatory as AF IMO. I will only sacrifice a baseline of 4xAA in rare cases. I'll run HDR+2xAA on my single X1900XTX in Oblivion, and I played FEAR on dual 7800GTXs with 2xAA, but enabled v-sync for both. In both of those situations 4x was possible, but 2x offered a little more smoothness. If I can't run 2xAA @ 1680x1050, I consider the game unplayable on my current setup. Luckliy, I have not run across that yet.

I definitely love having AF on at 8x, and if I have extra headroom, will enable some AA. When I get stuck without both, though, it makes me a sad panda 🙁

Like in Oblivion at 10x7 with my 7600GT 😛

Yes. I can't stand the jaggies.

The only game I don't play with AA is Oblivion, and that's simply because, as I have an nVidia card, I'm have to choose between HDR and AA, and I prefer HDR, since it looks so jaw-dropping in that game.

I have a 7800gs, so that means maxxed out AA/AF is not always a possibility, though. But I dont' need 60fps to live; anything over 40 is fine for me.

You should have added "I prefer A-A", and "I prefer A-F", too.

I always play my games with 16x H-Q Anisotropic-Filtering (sometimes 8x if the frame-rate is too low), but I rarely play with A-A.

Seems like most people like AA as a mandatory thing. So, once again, how many have boughten GRAW?

Not me, I don't new buy games that don't support current features. Similarly, I never bought BF2 becasue it didn't support widescreen properly.

Seriously? Dude, its really easy to set the widescreen resolutions in BF2. However, its not so easy to put AA in a game that doesn't even support it.

Anyone else bought GRAW?

I can't play w/o AA.... something about the jaggies that turn me off to games. I'd actually suck up the FPS drop over playin w/o it.

AF is good too 🙂

This is a bit OT, but...

It's easy to make BF2 run at a widescreen resolution, but you get a zoomed 4:3 image with the top and bottom chopped off. Dice said that they didn't include proper ws support becasue they felt that it would give widescreen players an advantage, so they gave widescreen players less verticle viewable area.

4x AA and 8x AF have been my settings since 9800 days. I dont see the difference between 8x and 16x AF, so I dont bother since it chops my fps substantially.

I cannot even imagine playing without it. My GOD even games like HL2 and COD2 would look like their old counterparts. JUST EWW !!! Id rather play with the 2 sisters turned on and get 30 fps then play with them off for >60 fps.

I didn't purchase it, but I did play the demo. It wasn't too bad...I didn't really notice jaggies or blurriness much when I was in the middle of action...but I've other big games to play...like Oblivion and HOMMV 🙂

Does anyone actually know why GRAW doesn't support AA? Is there a true technical reason for the lack of AA in GRAW, or is it just "not possible" according to the developer?

With 2 7900GT's in SLI @ 680/1920 it's not whether it's AA or AF, it's whether I use 4xAA w/TRSS and 16xAF or 4xAA w/ RMS or with Gamma AA (well, I always use Gamma AA since the performance hit is 0) or what level of AA I use.

I have yet to find a game that I can't run max settings with 4xAA and 16xAF and TRSS and Gamma AA and not have smooth framerates (except Oblivion). And since I'm limited to 1280x1024 I don't think that'll happen anytime soon. Although the 2405 looks really nice 😉

I didn't want it for an advantage in the first place. I really didn't notice any "zoomed" look or anything when I play with it, but I'll have to check when I get home. I just like it because the objects look more normal for my screen. I just coded the shortcut properties like they say to on tweakguides and it works great.

I think its just more of console vs. pc FUD. Money is all companies care about and since the suxbox 360 hit, more and more effort has been spent shortcoming features for the pc so that they will only be entitled for the 360. It makes me sick, and that's why I think no one should purchase that worthless game. Otherwise you're just letting those companies know that they can screw us from having a feature and still get money for it.

Dice really annoys me with their widescreen stance. Quick frankly, its dumb and hypocritical. They say WS gives an advantage. Yes you can see more to the sides, with a true WS res. They shouldnt penalize people for being able to afford nice hardware. Just as having a faster PC will allow you to set the draw distance to the max, while someone with a slower PC wont. Or having AA/AF, a higher res, and other graphical options to make the game look more clear, and real. Saying WS gives an advantage, yet ignoring the others is hypocritcal. BF has been my fav game for years, but thats the one thing that really annoys me.

For GRAW, there is a patch for it that supports AA. Like Bethesda, they claimed something was no possible, yet now it is. They said their deffered lighting didnt allow AA.
