Do you play games for the multiplayer or the single-player?

Keeping this off topic, which do you prefer?
I think multiplayer (online, other people, games - no story) >>> single-player (campaign, the story, by yourself, etc), but it seems a lot of people are the exact opposite (maybe that's why I enjoy Halo more than most?)

In general. Which do you play more?
Like, if all of the time you've spent playing multiplayer was added up, would it be more or less than in single-player mode?

Single Player. Only MP I play is ET, or an occasional Civ IV. Problem with the latter is working around everyone's schedules.

Give me a game that plays like a good book or movie. I need a story, plot immersion, colorful characters. I play to be entertained, not to compete with faceless strangers.

Edit: terminology

There are probably only a few games in the history of gaming that have multiplayer worth using. Single player FTW!

Never played Tribes but Doom 2 sucks and the original is only good for single player. The various multiplayer Half-Life mods are pretty much the only ones that can be played for a long period of time without being bored out of your mind.

Why, because I've never played Tribes? Meh, it sounds ok but there are many other better games that I could have missed, such as Deus Ex. I admit that I forgot about The Marathon Trilogy, which also had great multiplayer.

If you want to try it I think you can download both T1 and T2 for nothing legally.

Multiplayer for the most part, though I bought Doom III strictly for the single player since I thought it was really good. Same reason I bought Rainbow 6: Raven Shield, which I should start playing again, good game.

I'll blow through the single-player as quickly as possible (if the story's worth it- if it's not, I'll just do enough to get familiar with the controls), and then go straight to online play.

Console games... Singleplayer because nobody ever wants to play with me. :(
Computer games... I'll play single player before going to multiplayer, but I hate straight up "deathmatch" games. BF2, Counter-strike are good... I like TFC because it isn't just shoot shoot shoot... shoot shoot... it probably has a lot to do with the fact that you can't compete with the people who constantly play deathmatch games and... it's really just no fun going on a 1:10 k/d ratio

i prefer playing multiplayer for the most part. i don't get to interact with people very often and i think its a way for me to do that. on the other hand, i hate it because of the people. i hate the asshats and jerks and the cheaters.

some games i like playing single player though.

I've found that it's hard to get into an older game now that we're spoiled on modern graphics, unless it's a game you already enjoyed back in the day.

Tribes was good stuff...I usually concentrated on building an invincible defense back at the base :)

You'd be surprised at Tribes 2's graphics
EDIT: And screw defense, flag capping FTW :D

For some maybe. I'm playing the PC version of Doom for the first time and am enjoying it quite a bit. Besides, the graphics don't even look that bad anyways.

I find the exact opposite. I find it much harder to get in to modern games than an old game that I never played.

Doom 3, for instance. I didn't play very far into it. I got sick of going *FLASHLIGHT* *GUN* *FLASHLIGHT* *GUN*

Games are better when they aren't 2 shades of black and gray.

Multiplayer 99% of the time.

I like being part of a team of real people trying to beat another team regardless of whether that other team is comprised of humans or computer controlled bots....or buggers.
