Do you pirate anandtech?

The value of Anandtech thread got me thinking a bit. If you are running AD Block or some other ad stopping program, aren't you essentially pirating Anandtech since you are getting all of the site and the forums without generating any revenue to the site? Kind of in the same way that TV Networks say using a DVR to skip commercials is piracy?

I may not understand internet website advertising, but aren't click throughs of an ad are what determine the price that the website can sell the space for?

<---- Ad Block user. 😛

A person who blocks ads isn't going to click them anyway. I'm not sure how much is lost since ads pay per click not per view.

Maybe. But there is a chance an ad can catch your eye and get you to click. That chance drops to zero if the ads are blocked.

There is no way I would ever click an ad. If by some chance I do see an ad for something I would be interested in, I would do a google search for said product. Clicking ad's makes me feel dirty.

I have anandtech unblocked. Generally if I visit a site often I'll unblock them just so I don't feel like a freeloader. The exception would be for sites that have overly obnoxious ads. I don't normally click ads anyway so i'm not sure it counts for anything.

Maybe I've done it wrong in the past but sites look weird with adblock. I think we've all learned to ignore ads and I don't even notice them anymore.

I can't believe people can't just ignore them without the help of adblocker or a similar program. YOU WEAKLINGS.

What sort of benefits do you get with that?

1) I don't click on ads anyway
2) I was a subscriber back when they had it
3) I only put ads on my blocklist when they are flashing and irritating. Yes, they do it to get attention, and it works. It's just not the right kind of attention.

So if you get add block after a while you have a wall.

All of those sites are stripped out through the barracuda for me. Sometimes it runs too well and I cannot get drivers either! :|

To all of those who say you don't click ads anyways:

Please Complete the following sentences:

It's not delivery, it's _______________.

You're not fully clean unless your _________ clean.

__________ does, what Ninten-don't!

Like a good neighbor, _____ ______ is there.

What is the phone number for Empire windows?

As you can see, this s**t gets ingrained in our head and thats what the advertisers pay anandtech for as much as for click throughs. I'm sure they have a way of seeing how many adds are actually viewed.

Buh-bye ads. There are no sites that are careful enough with their ads to eliminate all of the obnoxious blinking and flashing banners, that includes AT.

I used to, after my last reformat I was too lazy to install Adblock again. The Anandtech ads aren't annoying, they're really small and out of the way.

I know it's not the point you're making, but none of those ads require clicking to fill in the blanks; they're audio (video) mostly. 😕
