Keep in mind these were days before cell phones were so popular. About 17 years ago, my family and I were on the way down to Disneyworld. My dad pulls over to the side of the road on the interstate and I asked him why?

He said look behind you. A guy in a tuxedo was huffing and puffing toward our car. It turns out he was on his way to his own wedding and his car had broke down. He had tried flagging down cars for the past 20 minutes but no one was stopping. When we picked him up the wedding was supposed to start 10 minutes ago.

Anyway, my dad had said we would give him a ride to the next gas station before he got into the car. After the story, Dad told Mom to hang on. Now, we were riding in an early 4 door Toyota that looked like it would rip apart if you topped 70 mph. Dad starts hauling ass, darting in and out of cars like in the TMR.

Thankfully, we got to the church ALIVE about 20 minutes later. The bride was standing outside with a bewildered look on her face as she sees her soon to be husband racing up to her with a family of 4 that she has never met before in some P.O.S. car. He was so elated that she hadn't left already, he gave my Dad a $100 tip for the ride. Dad turned the money down, but the dude insisted.

As for me, I won't pick up hitchikers unless they are in formal wear.

I feel bad for some of them...

Like on Easter my family went to my grandma's town (9 miles away) and I drove seperate from my parents... on the way there just outside of town was a guy walking.. he didn't look very friendly but I felt bad for him but yet I still drove on... a few hours later... I left, and just as I was leaving, he was just walking by that town.. and I felt really bad..

oh well.

"No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel."

"That -- good point."

"7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 doors. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office."

"Why?"....

:D

short answer, no.

Usually no.

The only time I do it regularly is when I go skiing, right at the mouth of the canyon there're usually a bunch of people (employees, skiers, boarders) looking for rides so I'll take as many as I can. Since I sometimes take my family's mini-van, I've picked up 5 people before. Might as well since I have to drive anyways, one guy gave me a free meal pass:)

Sounds like me, last semester I had to take the train into the city everyday for classes. Just so happened that once in a while I'd end up on the last train, drunk, and twice I overslept my station. Took me 3hours of walking to get home.

I used to pick up hitch hikers. I live pretty close to I-95 and US-301 so it is common for them to be walking down 301. I haven't done it recently though. I'm a pretty big guy, so I don't think anyone would try anything stupid.

If I see a person dressed decently and I think their car broke down I'll stop and offer a ride. If they're walking down the street without a shirt and looking crazy I keep going.

I gave a ride to this old guy once--think he was around 80+ yr old. Turned out he was walking to his home about 5 miles away! I picked another guy once--Rutger Hauer. He killed me. After that, I stopped.

I never have and probably never will. I live right by Interstate 80, so who knows what psychos are passing through.

Yup, if they look like a decent person. Picked up a really scruffy guy carrying a huge backpack once... my brother was also in the car. My brother asked him what was in the backpack, the guy just replied "none of your f'in business." A couple minutes later, my brother asked him again, "no really, just have your clothes and stuff in there? That's a big backpack." And he said again, "none of your f'in business". We stopped for gas, went inside to get something to drink, and while the guy was in the store, we took off in the car without him.... and, he left his backpack in the back seat. Really creepy creepy guy... should have never picked him up.
