You're not alone apparently..

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&c...p/usemployeesresumesfraud_060222155005

Though there are no official statistics, industry experts say that between 30 and 40 percent of people who apply for jobs, including top executives, falsify their resumes, typically inflating their educational background or lying about past employment.

It seems like this is the one thing that if everyone else does, you're almost at a disadvantage if you don't at the very least pad it just a bit. Obviously it's silly to put in a job that you never had or say that you attended a school you never went to, but it's not a terribly difficult task to fib a bit.

Also, if you can't lie properly, then you may just not deserve the job being offered :p

There was a doctor up here who claimed to have an MD and passed his licensing exam... but never. He was a family physician for decades, and when he was found out... he had patients demonstrating FOR him.

He probably got away with it because he was like an old chinese guy

Nope, got owned in a microsoft interview because I wasn't very specific on my knowledge of the C language but I put C on my resume. I had done high level stuff but not level device driver type C code. Got owned in the interview because of it.

Nope. All of the information on my resume is accurate. I don't specify how MUCH experience I have with all of the different programming languages on my resume, but when asked in an interview I'm always honest. Lying about my skills is pointless. We had a guy who lied about his experience with Oracle. Why the HELL would you do that?! It's not something you just pick up after you're hired. He was fired within 2 weeks. He only lasted that long because his manager was out for his first week.

I don't, but I think the majority of people do. I think about half of the people I've interviewed have padded their resumes. It's easy to test a programmer, though. Simply give him/her a simple problem and ask them to explain the thought and design process to you. Amazing how well that works for weeding out the people that are BSing.

Only one minor thing for me. I usually just omit the fact I don't have something I should. Then I'm not padding, just hoping nobody notices. ;)

BTW: In the article: "Education and employment are the top areas of falsification."

Umm.. No sh!t?

My resume is like that too, which is why I'll chose the poll option for "minimally" padding it. I have a few years of experience with most of the products on my resume, but there are a few where I've only been using them for a few months. I would never embellish my experience during an interview, though, because I know that I'd be in BIG trouble if they made me a lead support guy on a product that I didn't know that well.

College degree?

I usually bad my objective section. I tell them I have all sorts of goals, but really I completely lack ambition. :D

(j/k, I don't actually have an 'Objective' listed on my resume)

I've padded mine, but then I work for myself now so it doesn't matter. I just changed a date, and amount I was paid.
