I despise high-end laptops, I think they are a huge waste of money and no matter how much you pay you always get something sub-par compared to a cheap desktop.

That said, I have a Dell Vostro 1000 that I paid $399 for so I have something to use when traveling, to use at meetings at work, and just a general secondary PC. I don't believe there is anything a $2000 laptop can do that my cheapo can't.

I thought about it, but I just couldn't come close to the deal on the Gateway P6831FX earlier this year.

I had an XPS laptop for a little more than a year, but it just sat on my desk, and it turned into a desktop as I added a separate keyboard, mouse, monitor, and speakers. It was also rather heavy and large, and the videocard with the high resolution LCD started to become inadequate. I sold it and built two other better desktops instead.

I have 5 laptops and 5 desktops.

I regularly use 2 of my laptops and 2 of my desktops.

I keep 1 laptop out at the couch in the living room and 1 in my bedroom by the bed.

I have 1 tower that's host my ftp/website/file server and a Mac Mini I screw around with.

Currently have Dell Inspiron 6000 that I got from the $750 off $1500 several years ago. I now want a Dell 1330 but don't feel like shelling out the money for it.

Two. One used as a backup/guest machine. The other as a digital photo frame.

Have had various laptops/luggables since the late 80s. Always have desktops for serious work though. Having to dick with the battery is always a pain - always thinking, "do I have time for this one more thing or is the computer going to die". Therefore, the laptops are usually on a/c power and except for portability, would rather use a desktop. Also have become addicted to multi-monitor setups.

Yeah really. It's built like a brick shithouse. I could bludgeon intruders with it.

Nope. Never had one, might get one in the future. Regardless, I have a 24" monitor and don't think I can ever go back to teeny weeny 15/17" 5:4 display just for portability.

My notebook is my only computer - an Asus W3J (14"). I wouldn't mind going back to a desktop one day, but if I was going to do that, I'd still want a laptop for when I need to be somewhere else.

2 laptops, 1 desktop. Just bought the 2nd laptop in order to dedicate the desktop to my husband's flight simulation hobby.

Bought a used IBM T30, great for web surfing at the coffee shop since the two batteries got about 4-5 hours use of web surfing. (If I didn't watch too many Youtube vids. That seemed to shave off battery life considerably.)
Gave that away to my friend's sister, who is down on her luck.
Just got a Dell crapspiron that has been working nicely. Love the screen.
At home, I have a desktop that I recently built, and a budget HTPC based on the AMD 780G. Thanks General Hardware Forum for the help. :)
If things work out, I want a MSI Wind or the Dell that is going to compete with that form factor.

And I have a main rig I game on, and another rig that the mobo died on I need to part out, and most of the stuff to build a quad core rig and I never got around to finishing it.

This.

Oh, so where do you look at porn? In the living room in front of the pets? Or at the library with the winos? Where?

You need another answer: I use my laptop for work and my desktop at home.

My wife uses a laptop as her primary computer.

My kids use a desktop.
