I was thinking of picking up a Gameboy Advance bundle from Costco that includes Yoshi's Island :Advance 3 and a case for $99. Do any of you guys have a GBA and can you recommend other games?

Is that bundle worth the $99? Apparently that Yoshi game is very good. And there's also Metroid Fushion as well. Anyway, just looking for some opinions on the GBA in general. Thanks! :)

i like my gba, but yeah the lcd screen gets annoying unless you're in direct light. and most lights that you buy don't work all that well unless you can mod your own (afterburner-like). but there lots of cool games, depending what kinda games you like... but i can deal with it. if nintendo does release a new gba w/backlight, that would be fantastic but bad on battery life, either way i wouldn't buy another gba just for that.

i got mario kart, golden sun, and mario world... plus it works with old gameboy games.
currently awaiting for zelda: a link to past's arrival in december
also squaresoft is releasing games for gba in the somewhat near future, hopefully by the end of 2003

as for that deal, the gba is normally $70 and games are $30ish... so you're only saving for that case. check hot deals, someone posted about a $50 gba at some store: link

best of luck and good gaming

Lighting is horrible, but I will deal with it. I'm not spending the cost of a GBA itself on an Afterburner.

I would reccomend going to EBGames and getting a GBA + a $25-$30 game for a total of $75-$80 instead. (Buy a GBA game, get the GBA for $50). Best deal I've seen.

Advance Wars.
Golden Sun.

Games I was dissaponted in...
Tactics Orgre (god its so incredibly slow)
Puyo Pop (I dont see what seperates this from any other basic puzzle game)

Portability + batteries.

afterburner shows feasibility. would someone sacrifice maybe 15% battery life for 100% less eye strain? probably. perhaps pay 20 dollars more.

Possibly. But I wouldn't ever pay ~$90+ for a GBA alone. I got it cause it was cheap... $60 for a portable game system. If I wanted to spend near the $100 mark I would start looking at a home console.

Hmmm, when it first came out, I wanted one but it seems that now a lot of people sell theirs or don't play it.

I love it... the screen isn't the best but it really doesnt stop you from playing it at all... it really isn't too hard to get a good angle...

yoshi's island = favorite gba game ever.

get the package, you'll love it.

most people i know would pay 90. hell, thats how much many people paid when it first came out anyways. most people i know don't play gba at home either, its portable for a reason:)

You are quite wrong. MK Advance ranks among the worst games I have ever played.

GBA is an excellent system. Purchase:

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
Metroid Fusion
Advance Wars
Golden Sun

And park yer butt under a light

Humm...

My GC+Metroid thing came with $50 worth of Nintendo coupons for Target.

They have a GBA for $69-$10 coupon=$59.

$5 off Metroid and $5 off Link for the GBA as well.

I've had mine for about a year and I like it. I highly recommend you get a light. I used to use a Worm Light which was not bad if you angeled it just right. I recently bought a Flood Light which is GREAT. It has a fluorescent bulb so it lights the whole screen very well. The only down side is it weighs a lot and eats batteries. I got it because it was cheap and doesn't require surgery like the Afterburner.

As for games, I recommend both Castlevania's, Advance Wars, and F-Zero.

Thanks for the game recommendations guys... just got the bundle, and Yoshi's Island: SM Advance 3 ROCKS! :) What a fun game! I miss the side-scrolling 2-d games of the NES and SNES.... :)

I have a GBA, got it when it came out at $90. I have Golden Sun, Mario Kart, Mario World (Advance 2), & Breath of Fire II. I think I clocked about ~50 hrs on it over the year. Only game I played thru was Golden Sun. I guess I overestimated myself for being the 'young' gamer I once was.

Check thisout. Also how much is the flood light and where can you get it? I've been thinking of getting a gba as well, but I'm not going to do it until I can find a good, inexpensive lighting solution. Metroid, Golden Sun, Sonic Advance, Mario games.....sounds like fun :)

The Flood Light is $15 (I think) and you can get it at Best Buy.
