A binary poll? Sometimes I write replies I don't post, but it's not terribly common.

Yep. I find myself doing it more and more often. I usually start typing something and am about 2-3 sentences in when I decide it isn't worth arguing about. Just shake my head and hit cancel or the back button.

Usually happens when some idiot has been responded to multiple times with correct information/been called out and I don't feel like jumping on the dog pile.

All the time. Most of the time it's because a post is long and rambling and doesn't make sense. Other times it's because of this:

I am going to argue with someone and type up an elaborate reply, but then decide it's not worth the effort and arguing on the internet is dumb.

Yeah, either because it might be ban worthy or because it is too personal and I don't want a freak to stalk me.

I've definitely done that before.
Got into the zone typing a long reply but then I stop and realize I'm about to put a lot more personal information onto this forum and would rather not do so - so I back out of the thread or simply make a more generic and shorter post.

Other times I just feel the to-be-deleted post will likely incite some members, or sometimes I reach my conclusion and then discover I really don't know wtf I was talking about, as I either misunderstood, or rambled too much... or on occasion I research a topic after typing a reply and discover what I thought I knew was way way off target.

Sometimes. Usually I start to imagine the responses and then imagine my responses to those responses, seeing all the things that I will want to say and all the ways it probably won't come across, creating the need for more clarifying posts. All that imagining makes me tired, much less going through it all in reality. I'd just as soon cut my losses at the the initial post.

All the time, which is surprising considering my post count and the amount of inane crap I post here.

Yes, probably more than I actually post.

There's an old saying in poker that you can't bluff stupid. Well, here on ATOT you can't debate stupid. I often start typing but then give up before I can even hit the post button.

I almost always read my response before hitting enter (sometimes on the laptop or ipad I'll accidentally submit a reply before I'm ready to.) When I check it, I think to myself, "is this something that I might one day regret posting?" I'm amused at the number of people who don't consider it. I'm saddened, but amused when people come crawling to the moderators, asking us to remove all their posts from 3 years ago, because someone connected their real name to their nickname here & they're applying for a job, and... Bummer.

Sometimes yup, usually because i realize the person im replying to wont "get it" or wont understand or is too set in their ways. Other times i just cant be bothered continuing the discussion whatever it is about.

On ya go, buy your *insert any overpriced overhyped rubbish tech product/game e.g. iPhone, Modern Warfare 3, Bulldozer CPU* over the better alternatives out there im not gonna argue with ya :D
