Do you need to overclock your CPU to run faster RAM?

I mean, if you want to use PC4000 RAM for example, does the CPU have to be overclocked or can you overclock the RAM seperately to make it run at the speed it's supposed to run at?

well, if you are running at say 10x 200fsb =2000mhz

you could put 8 x 250 =2000mhz

RAM would be running at DDR500, not DDR400...and the overall system speed would remain constant....

What ExarKun333 is true for AMD systems. For Intel systems, unless if you have an ES chip, you would have to overclock the CPU in order to run faster memory.

Hey, if I ordered a CPU from Compuvest and it said "commercial sample" on the customs papers (to Canada), does that mean it might be an engineering sample? Because that Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4 GHz was only $163 US.

nevermind I guess. I just noticed the customs form they had to fill out is retarded. They have choices like: gift, document, other...and commercial sample.
