I want to replace a mattress. Can I keep my box spring or do I need to get the matching one for the mattress I'm getting?

You don't HAVE to, no. Although if they're the same size (twin/full/double/queen/king) that is helpful.

You don't even technically need a box spring at all.

Usually doesn't matter that much but you may run into issues if you ever need to make a warranty claim.

If your box spring isn't sagging and you like the feel of a box spring, keep it. Mattress stores usually don't give much of a price break on bare mattresses unless they are trying to unload bare mattresses. Personally, I don't care for box springs and went with a platform bed.

Funny situation on that one... The wife's niece lives next door and for the longest she and her long time shall we say partner (was married to him twice and is living with him again) have a full size foundation with a queen mattress on top... Talk about fun to sleep on I would figure...?

Man, how poor do you have to be to not be able to afford the right size box spring for your bed?

Sleep is way too important for me. I'd get a new box spring if it is more than 10 years old.

If you're looking at latex mattresses they use platforms instead of box springs due to the type of material and weight

YES!!! If you don't the mattress trolls will rape and murder you in your sleep. It starts out innocently enough...a few scratches and bruises here or there. You think you or the wife did it to you in your sleep, then it escalates into full on disembowelment. Do NOT piss off the mattress trolls.
