Do you need a hard drive installed

It would seem as if the answer should be "no". Opinions?

The reason I'm asking is because I am completing my HTPC (which needs a BIOS flash) but the hard drive that's going to go into it is still in one of my other computers. I'm going to have to do some file copying, etc. before I move it into the new system.

So can I update the BIOS of my HTPC without a hard drive installed in it?

No. Usually it's done with a floppy (emergency disk).
I had done it before multiple times with a bootable CD and USB key

Pick & choose the most convenient method

LOL um is this a trick? bound to get one of them wrong.
You do not need a harddrive installed to get to the bios.

Maybe I'm just stupid but WTF is a HTPC: home theater personal computer?
I won't even elaborate on that.
