Do you need a costco membership to look around the store?

If it is mandatory to have a membership, should I tell them that I will buy one at checkout or just be honest and say I'm looking around. I don't want to pay for the membership if I don't end up buying the furniture there. Advice?

They will usually give you a one day pass if you go in and ask. It isn't a problem.

they don't check for membership at the door or anything. you're free to browse around, it's just that you get charged extra if you buy something without a card.

They're pretty friendly there. I would just be completely honest and tell them you want to look for furniture there and if anything looks promising you'll of course purchase the furniture and the membership.

And honestly, you might as well purchase the membership. We've bought a lot of stuff from there very cheap. And if you're Costco has gas, it's much cheaper than anywhere else, even the 92 octane.

I dunno. His statement seems to be true of the costco here.

Or you can get the AMEX True Earnings + Costco membership card combo. With this option, Costco will auto charge you the membership fee.

There are a few of those temporary cards or w/e. They are little coupons that let you in once, and if you buy anything using them, you have to add 10%. For the OP: Worst case if they won't let you in, just tell them you are going in to apply for a membership, then just trot on in and browse. But I doubt it'll come to that.

Also. Dont forget theres a 100% satisfaction policy on membership as well. You could buy a membership, make a purchase and get a refund for your membership.

No ya don't. People that shop at cosco are among the worst drivers on the planet. When we had one built nearby we had a friend that was hit 3 times in 2 years by costco shoppers. Costco tears out city parks to build roads and parking lots and buys off city officials. When costco can't bully homeowners they trump up charges of drug dealing.

From the outside they look like a great company. The truth is they are dirtier than most. People just want the great warranty and cheap ketchup by the gallon so badly they deny that costco is a shyte company.

I'm as guilty as the rest. I shop there too :-( ( In my defense at least Im a very careful driver)

Costco is a quality company. The employees are well trained and they always do a damn good job.

Sure there might be horrible drivers, and I was waiting for a car to pull out, I signaled, and this big@$$ Ford F350 or something drove right up at me. He pulled up to 2 inches away from me because I was blocking. Old white guy who looked like trash. I wanted to kick his sorry little @$$, but I just backed up and pulled to the side. Someone almost stole my parking spot cuz of that.

Still, Costco is worth it.

Around here, it's the idiots coming/going to Home Depot that seem to lose any driving sense..."Git outta my way I'm goin to Home Depot!" There are numerous accidents from these idiots apparently losing any conciousness of where they are, or forgetting that OTHER traffic might have the right of way as they blast into HD...

OP, take a friend who has a membership to Costco. Then, if you find something you want, you have the option of either paying for a membership and buying what you want, OR, let your friend buy it for you on his/her card...

At my local Costco, they check your card at the door (and I assume at checkout), but if you go to the membership counter first, they'll give you a pass to just look around if you ask. I'm sure this policy deters shoplifting to a large extent, which is one of the major costs of running most big stores.
