I'm surprised no one has mentioned single malts. Almost any single malt is preferable to almost any blend such as JW. The bottom line is you don't mix scotch with anything other than water, soda water or quinine water. End of story.

Dude I was 15, stumbling around the house... the smell of liquor woke my mom up, she saw me and started crying and woke the man up to slap me up ... hahaha
I remember telling my dad that I wasn't drunk when I couldn't even walk straight ...lol

I would die.

Heh...I would die also...

My ex wife hid the fact she was a boozer and drug fiend for over a year.

I had a friend who owned 2 Liquor stores who gave me prizes of 20 and 30 year old booze.

I saved it as I dont drink much.

I found out my ex was mixing scotch and root beer and drinking it... BARF :disgust:

I have only seen people drink scotch straight up or over the rocks.

The 2 times I drank scotch I had to water it way down.

Now on the other hand, I can eat sardines stuffed with tuna fish and slathered in a mayo/anchovie/onion/garlic sauce.   :D  :sun: :p :lips:

:)

Slather that on some date bread and I think you've got something.

You sip scotch. Slowly.

Ice it down if you're going to cry about it burning... or just go wait in the car if you can't handle it.

Yeah scotch shouldn't really be mixed with anything other then soda I believe. If you want something to make some cocktails out of get a handle of Black Velvet and a 2 litre of Coke.

I was going to ask this exact question.

I inherited a couple gallons of red at christmas.

No one is ever going to drink that stuff, at least not with the Glens and Laphroaig hanging around.

For me, the only ways to drink scotch were:
Neat..(no ice, no water...just a double shot)
On the rocks (just ice...double shot)
water (ice & water...again, double shot of whiskey, but with the water added, you can get away with a lesser quality of scotch)

The better the quality of whiskey, the less crap you need to put in it...GOOD scotch should be enjoyed neat...no sense in diluting the peat-y goodness.

I like the Black and Blue label. I know the Blue label is a bit expensive and some would say overpriced, but I really enjoy it. It also didn't cost me a dime, so who am I to complain? :)

Soda water, ice, or both.

I like mine with a lot of ice personally. I dislike lukewarm drinks of any kind.

Do not mix scotch. this is a terrible, terrible idea.

Johnny Walker isn't that good anyway...so I guess you're OK.

When you get some better Scotch, don't mix it. And no ice, damn it!

you'll get used to the burning, trust me ;)

Scotch is best enjoyed after a prolonged, multi-course meal; and it should be warm and untainted.

OP, venture into the single malt realm. Then you'll learn about scotch...

see my response above. try out some single malts. I prefer Islays, (like Laphroaig), but all have their particular qualities.

Islay malts are probably the strongest, very peaty and dark. Ardbeg, Bowmore, Talisker are some good ones off the top of my head. Macallan is a typical, and rather popular Highland malt.

I drink it straight, and like the Islays too. Lagavulin is my favourite.
