Btw if you are ever hanging out in downtown Austin and see a black dodge charger roll by blasting some metal chances are its me.

My buddies up in Dallas were not that impressed with Maiden, said that they played almost all new stuff.

Good to know we weren't the only ones not impressed. After the fourth Maiden song we were bored and ready to go, but hung around so the daughter could enjoy her first concert a little longer.

Hmm...

Amon Amarth
Arsis
As I lay Dying

The Black Dahlia Murder
Born of Osiris

Children of Bodom

Eluvietie

The Faceless

Job For A Cowboy

Lamb Of God

Mors Principium Est

Some good bands from mine:
Dead like Dahmer
PDP (myspace search "heavyocity")
Her name was Disaster

There are a lot of people who feel that way, but personally I love death metal. Mikael Åkerfeldt is the man.

Well that's more prog-metal really and Akerfeldt sings as much, or even more now, as he growls.

Ever listened to Bloodbath? That's straight up death metal, no singing, but he's just as great as in Opeth. If you ever see him live it's amazing just how effortless he makes it look.

Nah, I can't go to concerts anymore. I just listened to them on Youtube and it sounds ok, but not sure I would listen to it on a regular basis. I don't mind some screaming/growling bands (Integrity is one of my favourites ever) but I prefer them to be more on the hardcore side, not the death metal side, if that makes any sense.

KT

Edit: my favourite metal band of all time, if you can call them that, is Neurosis. They are actually one of my top 10 favourite bands of all time.

I don't like outright screaming and bitching of typical death metal.

I like metal with a talented progressive twist. I'm a big fan of Opeth & Arch Enemy. I do need more recommendation along that road,

doh, wanted to see DT but might wait now and NOT pay the iron maiden markup.

Meh. I loved the thrash bands of the 80s and early 90s. Now it all sounds like one guy screaming while another does unspeakable things to a drumset. Where did the melody and intelligible lyrics go?

Been listening to a lot of Dream Theater lately..

There's plenty out there, you just aren't looking hard enough. 😉
