I've seen a few posts on here off and on in which some people have made comments suggesting that they look down on those in society living on minimum wage. One in particular comes to mind a while back. However in the post in question most people shot the OP down for his comments while a few supported him. So do you look down on those making a living on minimum wage? Note I say making a living, so I'm not talking about your average college grad working at McDonalds in the summer for extra dough.

When I was much younger I would have said no but in reality I did. Now that I'm a bit older I have to say definitely no. Having gone through some problems in university, of the emotional variety not the grade point type, and working in the summer at 7-11 and meeting some genuinely great people.

i can't vote, make a modified option similar to the first one, like this "they should aspire to more"

Usually it is both. 90% of people on welfare work.

I do look down on them IF they meet one condition. That condition is that if they can do better and don't, then I look down on them.

Some people are not capable of a better job. I even admire those people if they can hold down a steady job - even if it is minimum wage.

if you're working and getting your bills paid, or trying to, you're giving it an effort. what i don't like is freeloaders that feel that they are entitled to taxpayer dollars and handouts. get off yo' butt

I sincerely do not and hope I have never made comments that would make someone think I do.

That is one of the reasons I broke up with a previous girlfriend. She thought she was better than people making minimum wage and really did feel it was a scale on how you could judge someones success. Needless to say, her definition and my definition of success differed.

Nope. Minimum wage is paid to some of the most honest jobs out there....many firefighters, from what I understand, make close to minimum wage. But I consider that a job to aspire to.

Money is only valuable because humans let it be...in reality, outside of our societies, it's worthless. It's something to buy food, keep a place to live, and buy things you like....other than that it is meaningless. Anyone who considers it a social symbol is silly :)

I don't look down on anyone, nor do I envy those who have more.

no, however, i can't stand the people who work minimum wage jobs, and don't do it well, ie standing around while customers are in line, talking to their peers while there are customers...and so on and so forth....

If the company is run well those types don't last long. Which goes to show how many aren't run well :)

In my experience those making a low wage are much better people than those who are financially successful.

No, with a caveat: If they remain in such a job for years and whine about it, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Minimum wage jobs are entry level jobs. There is NO reason to remain in one for years on end.

I don't look down on people who earn minimum wage, conversely, I don't look up to them either.

I have had people look down on me b/c of my work and income in the past and it felt horrible. I would never want to make someone feel like that.

I bet you can't find a firefighter in America, except for the volunteer ones, that makes less that double the minimum wage.
