Do you live on a big spread?

I'm thinking about moving out of my 1/3 acre city lot to something much larger in a more rural area.

One property I'm looking at is on FIVE acres with most of that routinely mowed and kept up.

What's it like living on a big spread?

If you are comfortable with living away from the more urbanized areas, it's wonderful. We have a pretty big yard that is within the city limits, about 2 acres, but a friend of mine has around 5 acres out in the country and it is beautiful. I would love to have that much land one day.

i would love to live someplace with a nice amount of land.
my dad has a nice lot a few acres and its so wonderful staying there, its quiet, and so much more fresh than just 10 away from him.

He is in the "sticks" but close enough to the city. its great!

Growing up we had about 5 acres of land that were around us that that were undeveloped. We owned most of it but some of it was just a hay field...all of this was in city limits (small midwest town). It was great. We rode our bikes all over the place. Shot pellet guns. Shot bows. Blew sh!t up. Ect. You could go camping and get some freedom from your parents for a couple nights.

I'd love to be able to give my kids the same freedom when I have a couple of my own.

I grew up on 52 acres of forest and pasture land. It was wonderful. We now own 11 acres (with the hopes of buying the two properties on either side of us for an eventual total of 45 acres *someday*) I didn't want to raise my kids in an urban/suburban setting. For me, I feel like kids should grow up with room to play, ride bikes, get dirty, have cows and chickens, woods of our own to hike and camp in, a big garden and orchard, trees to climb, a creek to play in, wild animals (elk, deer, bears, bobcats, cougar, etc), tractors to learn to drive.
