do you listen to old music?

or do you only listen to current music? my dad likes old music as do i, but my mom only listens to the newest albums she's interested in.

I mostly listen to old music. Most of what I listen to was made between the 1920s and 1960s. There's new music I like, but it tends to be in the ambient/electronic genre. It takes a lot of work finding decent "normal" modern music.

I like people such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. They have a very calming effect on me. I can get into a good mood when I listen to them. But that's on rare occasions. I mostly listen to music that was produced this decade.

I like a few current things, mainly Americana and new releases from older, established artists like Dylan.

glad that im not the only one who likes eldies. i also listen to a lot of new-ish music, but barely anything that was released this year. all of the video game music i listen to is really old... naofumi hataya made some of the best vg music ever; other than gerudo valley, metroid games, and yoshi's island, i dont see what is so special about nintendo music since there are so few tunes, they just recycle the same ones over and over and over.

I'll listen to any good music. I can go from Creeping Death to Genie In A Bottle with no guilt.

But I tend to hover around the 60s through 00s years. And a lot of the newer stuff that I do like, is modern takes on the older styles.

One example is Rival Sons. I love their stuff. They manage to remind me of Zep, Free, etc, without sounding like clones.

I can't listen to a lot of 60's/70's pop music... I used to get car sick a lot as a kid and that's the music my dad would listen to on our road trips, so the feeling of being ill and hearing that music is inexorably linked in my brain.

As far as age of composition, those Baroque punks ruined everything.

The vast majority of my music collection is from about 1960 to 1980. Jazz, rock, and blues. I'll occasionally listen to 80s metal, 90s alternative/grunge, and jazz/big band from the 30s & 40s.

2000s were a pretty bad decade for music. I don't like modern rap or R&B. I'm not a fan of classic gansta rap but I can respect folks like NWA, back when rap was real. Jay-Z is a fraud and Kanye is a smug asshole. The rock coming out today is all wuss/emo. Any decade that gives Nickleback record selling albums isn't a good one for music as an art. Don't get me started on the current state of bubblegum pop.

In the last ten years or so a lot of incredible stuff from the late 50's and 60's has been remastered with great results. I was listening last night to some of Nate king Cole's albums, and its like a different world existed.

Mixed with that some Allison Krauss and Richard Thompson. Today I have in mind some early Cradle of Filth or maybe some gospel music.

Define "Old"

I listen mostly to 20th century music (metal, blues, jazz), but I listen to some 16th-19th century music too (I loves me some Beethoven!)

I do not listen to anything pre 15th century really ...

So, if "old music" is "the music that came before the "classical era", I listen to some baroque, but not much, and not really anything that came before that.

Nothing really before the '60s (aside from a bit of classical) and not all that much from the '60s honestly, just a few of the garage bands from that period like The Sonics, The Pretty Things, etc.

Some new, mostly old. Although most of my collection is non-English. Regardless of language "new music" is of inferior quality for the most part. There are a few gems here and there but it just seemed like in the 70's, 80's and even early 90's you'd have at least 3 songs that last the test of time on any album. Now you're lucky if you get 1 per album.

I keep recycling my 90s music, but go back to the 70's/80's frequently. Very little in the past decade has impressed me. Some of it is well produced (well written music fitted to the correct talent)....and the rest is poorly or overproduced. I'm not a fan of popular sensations that have never sung a note without autotune.
