Do you listen to music to fall asleep?

I didnt think it made much a difference. I figured you sleep when you can sleep, and when you cant , you dont.

The GF put some rain/ocean stuff on, and the stuff worked. I was out in 15 minutes.

Do you listen to music, if so, what type?

Anything that's in my CD player or on the radio. And I find that I don't sleep when I listen to my mp3 player. I can fall asleep listening to Disturbed or Rammstein, but I can just as easily listen to Enya. Breaking Benjamin and Marc Anthony are good ones, too.

If I want to challenge myself, sometimes I won't listen to it and see if I can sleep the whole night through. Turns out I can.

I use to listen to music, but now I put on episodes of How It's Made on and it puts me to sleep ASAP.

I love that show, but for some reason it knocks me out.

Used to, but it was too noisy and other people in the house complained, so now I'm used to sleeping with no sound.

definitely.

usually some sort of instrumental rock/post rock (sigur ros, explosions in the sky, mogwai...etc),

soundscape, ambient music...helios, brian eno

but it doesn't matter...i've fallen asleep to blood brothers, or one song repeating...eventually it drains out into background noise.

...postal service, death cab is good falling asleep music as well.

some solo/softer/crooner stuff is pretty good too

ryan adams, rocky votolato...lavendar diamond, neko case, cat power, rilo kiley, jenny lewis, regina spektor, rachael yamagata, joanna newsome

love love falling asleep to natalie merchant - tigerlily

although, I did once try downloading the *white noise/pink noise...* whatever type of noise that's supposed to help you sleep...didn't work at all.

I put a TV show on DVD in and watch until I'm tired enough to fall asleep (usually midway through the second episode)

I can fall asleep to music if I have to but I prefer falling asleep to a show on TV.

Why yes. Yes I do.
It's generally Royksopp, Secret Machines, or Pink Floyd.

I hate music/TV when I am sleeping.

However, ambient noise like OP mentioned works for me though. I sleep especially well when it's raining.

I listen to podcasts. It gives my mind just enough to process that I don't start thinking about stuff. If I start thinking, I'll end up staying up all night long.

listening to ambience (say from max payne and splinter cell) can work fine, but anything else might not work out at all for you.

Yeah, either the rain and crickets stuff or Mozart or Pink Floyd usually do the trick.

I used to always fall asleep to music. The radio when I was younger, and then CD's. Now I don't have a radio in my room aside from the crappy alarm clock which I only use as an alarm. I used to use a fan for a while. Now I have an air purifier running at all times, which is basically a fan.

I used one of those sound makers, like the beach sounds, rain, etc back when my tinnitus was bothering me.

These days I have learned to live with it, and I can fall asleep without any ambient noise.
