Do you listen to AM/talk radio?

I cannot understand how anyone can listen to that shit. It is no different than Fox News, in that it is just someone spouting their viewpoint.

I also don't understand how shock jocks can exist in this day and age. If I want to listen to music, I listen to what I like when I like it (Spotify).

So do you like AM/talk radio or shock jocks? If so, why?

The only thing I listen to on AM occasionally is a local news station (KYW). I almost never listen to FM anymore because 90% of it is crap. I find that keeping the radio off and either enjoying the quiet or having a conversation with my passenger is more enjoyable. When I do want to listen to music, I have an iPod that I connect to my car.

That's the reason people listen to what they listen to.

I pretty much only listen to Howard Stern on satellite radio.

You'd have to put a gun to my head to get me to listen to Hanity or Rush or that retard Glenn Beck though.

listening to music is no different as 99% of it has some political or moral point.

I used to listen to G Gordon Liddy years ago, but that was pretty much it, unless AM was mandated by vehicle choice. I now listen to NPR which is talk radio of a sort, but not the same in AM talk terms.

I almost exclusively listen to am radio. Either the local 1470 or 890 out of Chicago.
I don't really listen to music all that much and the fm stations around here really suck.

To be a talk show host, you only need to take any news story and take the opposite side of the majority view. Then when people call in, you just become rude and insensitve to them and hang up on them if they become too correct. Yep, love AM talk radio.

Heh...I'm with ya. One guy tell us for two hours that some government officials are evil and out to destroy you, then the next get goes on for two hours telling you another set of government officials are out to get you.

It's no wonder the country is so politically divided...you have people spouting off skewed facts 24/7.

Nope. Around here, the stations only play iterations of three types of programming:

1) Sports
2) Rush Limbaugh
3) Old-timey Bible-thumpin'

No thanks.

Edit: I take it back. The emergency broadcast station is on AM. It is very useful when traveling.

I've been a musician for 26 years, and I can tell you with certainty that 99% of music is about love.

I listen to Max & Marcellus on 710 ESPN/LA if I'm running errands. But most of the time it's 89.3 KPCC/NPR for me.

Sports radio is the only reason I'll tune in to the AM side of things. The sound quality is horrendous!! Unfortunately, most AM channels are propaganda machines geared to the mouth breather.

In my area, ESPN sports as added to the FM band, so I'll listen to that sometimes on my mp3 player. FM music has also gotten better since the switchover to digital channels too. Unfortunately most of the music is Beiber and his ilk crap, with exception of old rock music channels.

Mostly on commutes I listen to Stern or sports radio on Sirius Satellite. Kills the time more quickly than listening to music.

This is why I like world music; I can't understand the words. The words are probably something really stupid like "Baby, baby, baby, I want you, baby", "She dumped me for another and now I'm bumming" or "Allah gave her great knockers, praise Allah".

One Persian group I listen to, Niyaz, has a super trippy trance song. If I had to guess the meaning I would have said it was likely a Sufi praise song. It turns out that the song is a Iranian children's song about a hunter going into the woods and bringing back one animal then another, the Iranian equivalent of the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, modified into a love song.

There's a couple AM talk stations here in Toronto. I used to listen to Newstalk1010 but got bored of it. I also worked for an AM all news station at one point. No talk programs though. The rest of the AM dial is sports and multicultural programming.

Since I got XM in my car, I rarely listen to regular radio. A lot of the stuff on both AM and FM is total garbage.
