I love my country, love my home town, don't particularly like where I live right now (in this city for university, 1.5 years to go).

Denver is great, but so far not enough snow for my taste. The wife and I have thought about Alaska but we really like the Denver area. I'm thinking we just might move up into the mountains and enjoy the winter year round.

Same here. Originally from Central Ohio, and now live in Northern New Mexico. Absolutely love it. I could do without all the casinos, and miss some of the concerts of Ohio (it was real convenient living in Columbus and having Cleveland-Cinci being about equal distance from it), but will never move back to the Midwest again. The scenery here is unbelievable and I love the contrast both of the landscape and the people from area to area. What part of NM are you in jjsole?

The physical area is ok but it's full of ... southerners.

I've always liked ca (below la/above sf)/arizona/new mexico. Don't know why I didn't move there - probably family in ohio.

I'd ultimately like to live on a bluff above an ocean coast. It doesn't matter which country. I've heard many rave about new zealand.

not exactly, but soon enough we're moving to a much better town... will be tough to sell in these times though. Anyone want a starter home for $400k?

No. Santa Fe and New Mexico in general is a shithole.

I can't wait to move back to Oregon next year.

yes and no.

its sort of out in the middle of nowhere so it's far from jobs and any big stores and stuff like that, but i also enjoy the scenery, the quiet, and the ability to do things you can't do in the city.

Love where I live. Summer heat keeps the pansies away.

Like the bumper sticker says, "If you love NY, take I-95 north."

I like where I live well enough, but I'm ready to make like a tree and get the fuck out of here once I graduate college.

I miss the food and some of the culture in chicago but there's no way I'd go back either. There's such a decompression that went on after moving here and my wife (from chi too) and I are definitely not interested in 'recompressing' again, lol. I love the scenery (altho sounds like you have more of it being up north), the beautiful warm non-humid weather, the cost of living, less traffic, the outdoorsy things to do, and so on. We're right outside abq (RR). What area are you in? We've been to up chama (beautiful) for a short trip once, otherwise only to drive up to CO.

I've got no "major" problems with Jersey other than winters... if my company ever opened up an office somewhere further south like VA or the Carolinas or the south west, I'd consider moving in a heart beat.

I do, however, specifically hate the apartment where I'm living right now. it seemed like a good idea at the time, but more and more this place just feels too small for me (which seems almost ironic, considering I've lost like 200 pounds since originally moving in here)

200lbs? So you were/are a morbidly obese, gay republican? Are you going for some kind of record?

Congrats if the 200 wasn't a typo. I bet life is much easier now.

hah. not a typo, though an estimation (I started losing weight before I actually started tracking it... I guesstimate it at like 30-50 pounds before I started weighing myself on a regular basis plus the documented 150 since I've been charting)... still have another 60-70 to go, though /wrists

I'll agree with you on Santa Fe, but that's about it. You sure you have spent much time outside Santa Fe? I mean, yeah the state is full of dilapidated houses and poverty in general (thanks, casinos!) but I prefer that to the fake image of many other places. White Sands, Jemez mountains, Bandalier, Taos area, and Truchas are all good places to visit.

Chama is definitely a nice drive, save when you are in Española. I live in the Pojoaque/Nambe area. Great hiking right behind the farm I live on in the badlands corridor between US 285 and SR 503. Totally agree on the dry air, and although Ohio didn't have any great food per se, there was certainly a wider variety. Although the food here is very good and I think between the chilis and dry air I have stayed healthier than I have ever been.

Nah, thinking out of Canada all together, but we'll see. As long as I don't end up in Toronto, that's all that matters. :D

Haha, I had the same, uhm, impression of espanola as well. :D I'm not too familiar with your area, even tho its probably <2hrs from me. Sounds awesome.

We have probably been healthier than a long time as well, especially my wife but even my older dog who was really slowing down in chi. apt. living. Love the green chilis...never thought I would. However its nice once in a while to find a good restaurant that doesn't ask 'red or green?' with your order. :)

As for people who think NM is a sh!thole, I'm the last person to try and convince otherwise. All the better for the population. It's not for everyone at every stage of one's life. Young people might go crazy moving here.

When my wife moved here (we met the month I left chi, married here), 1/2 the people she knows up there thought she was moving to Mexico, lol. Maybe that's because whenever a nat'l weatherman covers the different regions, he *always* stands in front of NM as if it doesn't exist. That's fine with me.

Like isn't really the right word. I appreciate many things about my area (Central, IL) but you still have the horrible extremes in weather in the midwest. Hot & muggy summers. Winters that would make a SoCal resident's butthole pucker.

But I can get great deals on real estate. Salaries are actually very competitive. Schools are great and crime is low. Traffic is non-existant and commutes are very reasonable.

There's no mountains, oceans, or super fine dining/shopping without a drive to Chicago but for 90% of the days of the year that's not too bad. I still work 50 weeks a year. I can use the money I save living here to visit or retire to those areas.

Ideally I'll psuedo retire to a split residency. Pacific NW from April-Oct. Then head down to Arizona for the winter months.

:)
