I found that section the most interesting part of the video with trees grown specifically for paper, leave it to companies to find the most efficient tree to farm. Then more trees now days than 1920's.

that's more due to high yield mechanized farming on what had been grasslands supplanting lower yield farming elsewhere than probably any other reason.

Watch the vid. Listen to their citations.

Yes by now we all understand what your contribution will be, you do not need to repeat it so many times.

Let me guess. response to this is going to be 'Watch the vid!'?

In case you didn't get it yet, recycling uses more resources and more energy.

Compostable materials? Well that's something you can use for your own good - paper, cardboard, etc.

Well yeah I was figuring that the thread is intitially saying that recycling does more harm than good...but I'm not really convinced either way on the subject. As of yet, seems there are good arguments for both sides. I would certainly like to believe that the recycling I have done over the years was helpful, so if not that really sucks. At least I try to take it a step further...rather than throw things away, I attempt to re-use, donate and sell unwanted items, even small stuff. I was not aware that paper products could be used for composting, thought that was more about leaves and grass cuttings. That may be worth exploring. But what would you propose I do with my cans and bottles, throw them in the regular trash?

Regardless of you agreeing with it or not, recycling will become basically a necessity as we run out of space to put the trash. Think of the current state as recycling in its early stages and should improve over time. Granted, we might not see any huge changes to it in our lifetime, it is something that makes sense long-term.

Equating a tree farm to a forest is inaccurate.

You are correct if referring to only one single tree farm to support the whole of the paper industry but you and I and everyone else know better than that. Your audience isn't that stupid.

Well, since the video is the article of discussion for this thread, watching it is the least requirement to participate.

That's covered, too. A 35 mile square 200 feet high would hold a thousand years of garbage.

There's plenty of space for it, this is a myth.

EDIT - why they fuck does VB keep mis-attributing my quotes? Nik didn't say this, darkswordsman17 did.

You posted it so we could all either agree with it, or if we didn't agree, to be told to watch it again until we did agree with it.

Not really, no. However, if that explanation works for you, more power to ya!

Yes. Because simply throwing it in a hole and covering it with dirt just makes it go away. Have any of you spewing this stuff ever been to a county landfill? The infrastructure, maintenance, and environmental impact have to be addressed. Fuzzy numbers like that are why I take most "facts" with a landfill sized grain of salt.

One thing I've learned is Penn & Teller are biased and don't provide all the facts, so I ignore them.

I like how Penn and Teller weren't able to address the issue of finite amount of oil and how plastic doesn't decompose in a landfill like paper and food products do.. That methane they get from the landfill is from decomposition, something plastics don't do..

I recycle when it is convenient. Although, in one building it got so bad that I could not find a general purpose garbage can outside a bathroom.
