It's a great place to have a social meal, but way too much money to have me decide to go on my own. (read: $50/person)

Yes but I won't go there unless we have a gift card or something. It's waaaaay too expensive for me.

Okay, I'm never going on my own dime, then.

The food is ok. My girlfriend likes to go there. The ambiance is nice, but my problem with the Melting Pot is that it takes soo long to eat. You have to wait for each damn vegetable and piece of meat to cook. I want a plate of cooked food in front of me all at once.

I don't think they're overpriced. For the service, and the amount of time that you take to eat the courses, they're on par with other restaurants of the same caliber. I love their deserts.

That's weird, when I go with my GF it comes to about $35 after tax and before tip. Then again we only like to drink water and get one oil with chicken platter and then one cheese with all of that other stuff that is supposed to be dipped in.

I know people who love it but personally, I find it to be one of the most overrated restaurants around. It's incredibly overpriced for what you're actually eating, it's time-consuming and I don't find the food to be all that spectacular. I suppose it's a good place to go with a group of people maybe 1-2 times a year. But if it's just myself and my SO, The Melting Pot wouldn't even make it on to the consideration list. If I'm spending that much money on a meal for two, I'm going to a nice steak/seafood or Italian place.

Also, I think it's a lot more fun to do Fondue at home. Sure, it's nice to let someone else deal with the mess that follows but doing it at home is cheaper, just as romantic (if not more) and you can be more creative with what you eat. And you can incorporate some naughty fun into the dessert part of the Fondue meal. ;)

It's okay for a special date or a group of people. But it's overrated, overpriced and less fun as a place to celebrate than a bar/grill with pool tables.

Good place to go with a group of people or with the woman to celebrate something. I don't think it's too expensive, not something I would do on a random Tuesday night just for a meal, but I usually get out of there for around $100-120 for the two of us.

I love that type of food, and occasionally make it myself. But that price has always scared me away. My sister always has 50% off coupons for it and even then I haven't been interested enough to pay $30/person (after coupon). So, I've never gone.
