Do you like small or large dogs?

Inspired by somebody's post in my sad thread about putting down my dog, a phone conversation with Zenmervolt, and somebody with a Pomeranian answering my roommate ad: what size dog do you like?

And yes, I realize not everybody considers a 60-80 lb dog to be midsize, but my perspective is skewed by owning large dogs.

I've only owned large dogs (90+lbs). That's all I really like. Those little yip-yip dogs really bug the crap out of me.

I like midsized. Small enough that they won't knock you down when they jump on you, but big enough that you can walk them easily.

Large dogs. Alaskan Husky size is perfect. Unfortunately I'm alergic to dogs and don't really feel like itching like mad if I have one. Alergic to cats too, and we've got two of them.

I'm all about the Great Danes/ Malamutes. Real dogs. Small dogs can and should be squished. ;) Their personalities tend to be too high strung for me. My theory is that all dogs have the same amount of energy. Large dogs just have more space to expend it. That's why large dogs are lazy and friendly and small dogs hover.

Cats are lower maintenance. I can barely keep a plant alive, cats fend for themselves. As for dogs, I'd want a Malamute (sp?) or a Husky. Besides, when one brings a woman home and he has a dog, the woman's reaction is, "get this thing's nose out of my crotch". If he has a cat, however, the woman's reaction is, "Awww, what a cute kitty!" Which reaction would you want a girl to have? ;)

EDIT: The only use I have for small dogs is for punting practice.

There's something vaguely AT Freudian about that but I can't quite put my finger on it... and I don't think I'd want to.

Dogs smell, crap all over the place and slobber spit everywhere, why would anyone want to own one ?

Cats, clean themselves, never drool on you and bury there crap, a much more civilised pet than the lowly dog.

Edit;

Come here poochie, there is a mouse in the basement I want you to hunt down ;)

Lived with an Australian Shepherd last year and two cats this year. Freaking litter box smells more than the nice clean dog ever did (and it gets cleaned daily), there is cat hair all over EVERYTHING, and more people are allergic to the cats than ever were to the dog. Plus the cats want to be pet and they want to be pet NOW (read, crawl all over you no matter what you're doing) whereas the dog knew what it meant when you said go lie down.

That said, last year's dog was personality-less and I like the cats better. But in general, dogs have the advantage waaay over cats.

My little guy is named Simba (for good reason) ... small dogs are a ton more fun. I'm looking at getting a Westy soon.

Westies and Shi Tzus (sp?) are the exceptions to the rule in my small dog book. Nice dogs. Corgis too, whether they fit in the small or mid-small category.

Small dogs tend to have trouble holding it (they tend to pee in the house a lot), while big dogs eat big, poop big, and generally don't live a long time. So, mid-size dogs are best.

Conjecture or fact ?

There is no such thing as a clean dog, do you watch your dog jump into the bath and wash himself ?

I didn't think so, do you let your dogs crap in a litter box inside the house ?

I didn't think so.

I have never seen one person in my long lifetime be allergic to the cats in my house.
You must have some very strange friends ;)

Jeez I hate poodles and those small weaklings. It's all about the large dogs - especially Golden Retrievers. They own! No offense to those with small dogs, hehe, just my opinion.

i like small dogs. I am a little afraid of large dogs though. we had a cute mutt, and he was about 22 lbs, which I thought was perfect for cuddling with :)

Gotta be large dogs. Every single dog ive owned has been a German Shepherd. I have found them to be the best guard dogs, also among the smartest, and also the most loyal dogs. Once you develop a relationship with them they will lay down their lives for their master.
