I think originally that's how they made it, then when it got adopted more it got changed around. Like the one I shown, they just add tons of stuff to it. Bacon, sausage, peperoni, green peppers etc.

There's even places that make "Italian poutine" which is basically replacing the gravy with spaghetti sauce. I never tried it.

The original poutine was cheese curds + gravy + fries. Even in Quebec they have all that fancy bullshit now. Most of it isn't nearly as good as the classic stuff.
 
Haven't had it, but what's not to love? gravy ... good stuff, cheese ... good stuff, french fries ... boring, but with cheese and gravy .... would be excellent!
 
Wow, not something you see everyday, a poutine accident!

after having an epileptic seizure inside a KFC outlet and landing face-down in her piping-hot poutine.

lol.. coulda been face down in piping hot mashed potatoes, or piping hot zuccini caserole, or coffee.. it just happened to be a dumb canadian that went twitchy in poutine.
