if I remember from a lecture, the new labs may be trying to create micro-black holes, the new facilites will have the ability to prove/disprove aspects of string theory for the first time which is why physicists are so excited about them

though I don't think the one at CERN is the first one opening up of the next-gen facilities

I picked CERN, because I am going for my bachelors in Physics, while also finishing my Senior year of HighSchool. I will have a masters in Physics by the time I'm 21.
