Do you Like Lady Gaga? Musically or Politically?

Is it possible that Lady Gaga has some annoying guerrilla marketing/spam thing going on? There has been an influx lately of new members talking about her, I'm thinking there may actually be paid shills for her on the internet.

I don't know what you mean by "politics", but I like her style and attitude. I don't care for the music, but she's the only real rocker that I'm aware of. She put the sex and controversy back in the music where it belongs.
Apart from wearing a bacon dress, what exactly is it you think she's doing that thousands of other musicians haven't been doing for decades?

I don't really see anyone generating the shit storms of controversy and talk she does; that's kind of the point. Everybody's been floating in their particular little comfortable niche for far too long, and I'm happy to see things shaken up again. The last one was Marlyn Manson, and that was way too long ago.

What I do respect about her is that she's a marvelous exploiter, self-promoter and businesswoman. She knows very well how her industry works, how to get into people's heads and how to leverage that to her advantage. I don't know if she'll have staying power, but I suspect there's a lot to learn from her about success.

i agree with this. she started out as a failed folk singer and changed it up to be what she is now. not to sit on her laurels, she is busting her butt and striking while the iron is hot.

I wouldn't care much about what she has to say about the budget or foreign policy; but I think it's notable and worth something when she speaks up for gay rights or admits using cocaine, which undermines the "War on Drugs" idiocy that we're dealing with now.

Well agreed that the "War on Drugs" is an expensive fustercluck of fail on more than one level; I still don't think promoting, advocating or even admitting any regular use of cocaine is a good idea.

I do truly admire her extreme bravery in sticking up for gay rights in the face of that huge demographic of homophobic Lady Gaga fans, though. 😉

Meh. In the end it's her choice to make whether or not to make her political opinions public, I just don't care what she thinks at all. I pity anyone who does.

she's a industry generated sight gag designed to mesmerize fools away from their money.

Lady Gaga wasn't "industry generated" at all. She was a self-creation, no industry entity had any role in creating her.

The cast of the Jersey Shore? Their fame was "industry created." Like the Monkees of yore, they were just cast to play roles in an industry creation by industry execs..

Not so, Lady Gaga. She created and has shepherded to fame her own unique shtick. For this alone I give her major props.

Like Madonna and like Mae West, her brilliance lies in her marketing of her self-created image more than any intrinsic artistry.

I'm not a fan of her music genre, so asking me to rate her music would be like asking me to differentiate between good and bad yak shit.

But I will say this about her: I've seen a few vids of her going acoustic, and underneath it all she has some genuine musical chops.

And I will also say this one last thing: Gay illegal aliens are the next sacred cause of pre-teen progressives everywhere! 😀

Musicians should keep to what they allegedly do best. Music. I don't care what her thoughts on politics are as much as I care how well my congressman sings.

Unless they believe what you believe right?

Honestly, I have no idea what her thoughts are on politics but I wouldn't mind hearing them.

No, I'm not interested in any singer from this day and age's political views. They are literally no more of interest to me than the homeless guy outside the liqour store.

Some of the best music of all time came from political or social messages.

Maybe 30-40 years ago. We're talking about pop music here.

Also, I completely agree with Perknose. Love Lady Gaga, she can really sing and has built her empire/image from the ground up. I respect that a lot.
