And how about mp3's which typically cost 30% more on itunes than amazon. Of course if you want to keep paying the apple tax, it's you prerogative.

Oh and how about their replacement chargers or headphones, which typically cost $30 at the apple store but can be had on monoprice for $3?

Or their shitty plastic cases which probably cost 15 cents to manufacture but sell for $30?

I believe I've made my point.

I'd like an example of the "obscene" prices please...

A 13" Macbook Air is $1300. A Windows laptop with the same specs is ~half that price.

Obscene enough?

There is NO reason for the MBA to cost that much. NONE.

Portability

Pick 2

As for windows based with similar portability and speed, the earlier mentioned Lenovo 220 and the new Asus Zenbooks are all right in the same exact price range.

Wow, that's easy. The iphone 4S. Their storage prices are a joke. 16gb extra for $100 more, and double the price for 48gb.

Bad argument.

A year ago, the top android phones had 1-8GB internal storage, and went for the same price as the 16GB iPhone 4. Even today most Androids only have 16GB internal and maybe another 16GB in SD cards, and they go for $299 too. I might add 32GB internal is quite a bit more expensive than 16GB internal and 16GB sd.

These are market prices. Not Apple prices.

points are not allowed here. 'x product is better and costs less' is just 'apple hate' from us 'fasnboys.'

And to play devils appelcate...at least many Droid based phones have the common courtesy to include a micro SD slot.

put your blinders on and pretend microsd doesn't exist. apple would prefer it didn't.

my ~40GB sandisk mp3 player that i paid ~100 bucks for was a terrible deal! why didn't i just buy a 4GB nano?

Sorry no, if you read the ultrabook article on ars, you'll note they explain why other companies can't compete with their prices on the mac book air.

Folks like you said the ipad would be out priced in months, you were beyond wrong. competitors even had higher prices for a while even.

but what about people who don't give a shit about an SD slot? that feature is worth $0.

again, another apple user makes themselves look retarded.

it's only worth $0 because you don't have it, and you're drooling on apple's junk.

lol why would i pay $30 for 32GB when apple can sell me 8gb more for $100 lol i is smart

It's almost $100 to go from a 16 gig iPad to a 32 gig one. A 32 gig microSD is $40.

I'd rather have the slot and ability to expand on my own than pay apples premium for added storage. Oh and if I could manage data through the card vs. iTunes or synching my device that would be dandy!

oh so because i don't need a feature that you care about, i'm retarded? gotcha.

it is worth $ to me because it is a feature that i don't care and will not use. i dont even come CLOSE to maxing out the memory on my iphone, and i watch at least 90 minutes of video a day on there taking the train to/from work.

just like the voice recognition shit on my phone that i don't use. i couldn't care less if they removed the voice controls, i don't use it nor will i ever.

why is it so hard for some people to understand that different people have different needs? just like i don't give a shit about a 4"+ screen and PREFER the smaller screen of the iphone, and that is one of the major reasons i decided to get it, because of it's smaller size.

do you honestly think that when i purchased my iphone i didn't consider my other options too? god damn phandroids are the fucking worst.

and i am probably a bigger fucking nerd than most people on this forum. hell i even make apps for iphone AND android.

that is great and all, but you still did not answer my question.

a lot of the people who purchase apple products just want their items to "work" and not have to do ANYTHING to them.

look we both know we could get a 32gb microSD at newegg or whever for around $40 or whatever the price is. the average joe who doesn't even know WHAT newegg is who purchases an iphone, they would go to best buy or whever and see a 4gb microSD card for $40.

I think you underestimate the user base of iPads and various other devices. People have been dragging and dropping to digital cameras, cell phones and jump drives for a decade now. Normal people. Like my Mom and Grandparents who just got high speed internet a year ago. They understand concepts like adding a bigger card to something for more space (like a digital camera). And taking files off of it. A lot of them could benefit from a benign add-on like a memory expansion slot. It's not it's a revolutionary or incredibly expensive addition. It's an easy way to sell high markup items and control data though.

i'm not the one posting ridiculous shit, i'm just responding to it.

'microsd is useless because apple doesn't use it' is a pretty fucking retarded statement. what he meant to say 'microsd is useless TO ME because APPLE has deemed it so, and i'm happy paying a 400%+ price premium in order to be told this.' i don't see how you can be any more of mindless fanboy.
