I am from NY and was under the impression that you aren't supposed to do this in case you car gets stolen? Anyone have any opinions/links?

Uh, considering that the police always ask for license, proof of insurance, and registration...then yes. You could carry it I suppose, but if someone else (spouse) drove the car, you would need to make sure that they took it with them.

Place in car and lock car doors.

Registration doesn't prove ownership, title registration does.

me too. i just enlightened my mom this weekend after driving her truck and noticing she had it at home.

In Alabama I believe you can get away with just having a photocopy of the registration in the car. I just keep the real thing.

no, that way when i get pulled over and the cop asks me for my liscence AND REGISTRATION, i get to explain why i left it at home
😕

Nah what you should have is a huge wad of cash along with the title sitting in the passanger seat. Also remember to leave the doors unlock with the keys in the car when you park.
