do you guys have traveling job where you stayed at a hotel for months at a time ?
if you do, how often do you leave tips for the house cleaning service ? and how much ?

If i stayed at the Hotel for a couple months maybe...if they left mints on my pillow and/or the cleaning lady was HOT and down with it....otherwise no...

only if the room was left in particular dissarray.... which has only happened once. And it wasnt even bad - no trash was left out

I agree. If they had to go out of their way to clean up after me, then I'd leave something. But just for normal cleaning type things, no. It's their job.

usually if i'm somewhere ghetto or in another country i'll leave a tip. oftentimes i have to leave camera gear kinda hidden in the room while i travel so (at least in my mind) it seems if i pay off the cleaning staff they would be less likely to steal stuff.

pretty sure that's not true but whatever

Oh man... "YATT" whats with the tip obsession people seem to have? They get paid to do their work, you have nothing do with it (yes Im from europe, no one tips around here)

If I happen to remember to tip at the moment I'm leaving, I always remember before and after leaving but never at the instant I'm heading out. I do try to keep my room clean though. They usually just empty trash, RE-fix my bed and replace towels. Though I'm sure that others rooms aren't as easy as mine.

Whenever I stay in a hotel, I always leave a few dollars for tip on the last day of my stay. I think the biggest tip I gave was $10, but that's because I stayed for a few days and every time I came back my room was in beloved patriot-and-span form.

I leave tip each night (different maids) Only a couple of dollars. Part of the cost of staying away from home. If you can afford a $100 a night room charge for the corporation, you can afford a few bucks for the person who scrubs your toilet and changes your sheets.

How does the cleaning service know a tip from just money left on the dresser or nightstand?

Most of the time they leave business card (similar) that explains who cleaned the room. I just put the tip with the card. I'm not leave tons of cash, just a couple dollars a night.

Depends on the hotel, what kind of mess I leave, how good of a job they do. USUALLY, in a nice place, I'll tip a few $$ for each nite, but more if I leave a mess for them to clean up. IMO, it's no different than tipping the wait-staff in a restaurant. (Here in Kahleeforneeya, they don't get that $2.13 sub-minimum wage that MOST of the country screws the wait-staff with.)

I live in a hotel 5 days a week and I rarely, if ever, leave a tip. I've stayed at hotels for months at a time and sent something to the front desk when I was leaving but the only thing I ever leave for the maids is maybe the change I've accumulated during the week. Since it's just me and it's for business travel I'm usually pretty mellow during the week and don't trash the place. If I was partying and tearing up the place I would leave a few bucks.

If I am on a lost weekend with buddies in Vegas, there is a big fat tip for the maid. If it is a business trip for more than 1 night I will leave a buck or two. That's about it for me.
