All my life my mother has been on my case because I eat a lot of meat and not many vegetables. I recently had mine checked and it was in the 170s. I think mom was actually disappointed it wasn't higher.

Have you tried just plain old cinnamon? It is much cheaper than drugs.

It used to be high. I don't remember what it is now, but my doc said it's fine.

No and no. I'm in my mid-20s, so I guess it's about time I start to pay attention to it.

I don't pay for this drug. It's covered by my provincial disability benefit.

We used to have this girl probably around 23, who worked in my clinic, and had a type of familial hyperlipidemia. Thin as a rail, looked hale and hearty. Occasionally we would draw a tube of blood from her and spin it down in a serum separator.
After separation, her serum looked like a few drops of liquid around a large plug of wax. Her blood was essentially the consistency of warm toothpaste.

To look at her you wouldn't think she had a thing wrong with her, but she was frequently hospitalized for hypertriglyceridemia induced pancreatitis. Very painful and destructive, and potentially fatal.

My point is, cholesterol isn't anything to be ignorant of, particularly in this day and age of preventative treatment.

My last cholesterol was 140, and my LDL's are ~70s. It's likely that as we all get older, the AHA will lower the target for LDL to 70 and below, because in all the studies done to date regarding cardiovascular disease risk, there is no lower level plateau at which risk of CV events levels off.

Just my .02.....

Is there a correlation between high cholesterol and physical performance?

I have high cholesterol and I run 5 times a week, but I get tired way to fast. I do on average 4 miles, but after 2.5-3, I feel like I maxed out.

I just assumed that my clogged arteries doesn't let the blood flow effieciently - or something like that... I dunno, I'm no doctor. Anyone care to explain?
