Too few and far between, eh BigDan? The opposite isn't much better. When people are packed four families per acre, or closer, you tend to want to stay at arm's length. In the 20 years we've been here, we've had some really nice neighbors, and one nit-wit. Did I say nit-wit? I meant ditz!

I'll chat with anybody who come along, but I don't have time to get too involved... usually. I'm unemployed right now, but when both of us are working, it's impossible to spend time with neighbors, when you hardly have time for your own family.

Just moved and the townhome next door...mmm...there's a brunette babe I'd love to meet. But, alas, appears she's 'spoken for'.

I moved into a townhouse complex in January. Since we all live in a close knit environment...it's kind of hard not to meet your neighbour. My one neighbour actually made a point of coming over a filling me in on all the gossip about everyone in the complex!

I just smiled and nodded, I'll make my own judgements. I'm the type of person that will smile and have a pleasant conversation with my neighbours, but I don't necessarily want to become best friends with any of them. If that does happen naturally well then great, but I'm not going on a mission to make best buds!

Having said that...so far everyone seems really nice and since I have a 1yr. old it's nice to be out with the other kid's in the playground. Especially since that last couple of days have actually been sunny and kinda warm!!! Yay!!:)

Did in the past, don't now. I wish I could have my old neighbors back. The people in my complex suck.

I would like to get to know some of them. We have lived in our new house for nearly six months.

Live in an acreage subdivision, so we have few neighbors. Met one yesterday who is moving into the house next to us. Only reason I met her is because she came out to apologize for cutting our phone line. She is having a new fence put in and they didn't mark off the line properly. Oh well, it was all cool.

I had some really cool neighboors in the two houses across the street. The guy that owns the houses decided to kick everyone out and rebuild. Now my wife and I are the youngest people on our block by a good 50 years.

I live in SoCal.

Not the current place we live... but when i was growing up, we all knew each other in the neighborhood. It was mostly Italians and Portugese though, but we still fit in great (we're Chinese).

At home, my mother (and the rest of the unemployed housewives) have "doggie play group" - all of the dogs get together and run around, and the women sit around and gossip. They enjoy it a lot. I'm in a dorm, so of course I know my neighbors, but I don't hang out with them very often.

sometimes i wave to my neighbors. sometimes. i know their cats a lot better than i know them. mostly people in my neighborhood just talk to spread the word about a new cat's name. "that one is buster. that one is dutchess. have a nice day." lots of cats in my neighborhood, as you can see.

I know most of the neighbors around me at home. In the dorm, I know practically nobody, heh.

Yup. We have BBQ's occasionally, and will probably have a community garage sale soon. This is in Seattle (Greenlake).

I know who my neighbors are, and I say hi to them when I get the chance, but I don't hang out with them or anything. The only neighbors I really "know" are some friends that live in the same complex as I do. None of my neighbors are in my "age group", so I doubt we would have much in common. For instance, I don't enjoy getting into screaming matches like the middle aged couple across the hall does. I also doubt that I would have much to talk about beyond the weather with the 80 year old man that lives down the hall, or the 80 year old woman who can't hear that lives next door.

Dude, get out in the dorm and meet people! It is an essential part of dorm life!

I know my neighbors, we say hi every now and then. I even know their names (except some of the kids.)

We've been invited over there for dinner a few times but have yet to reciprocate. We suck I guess.

When I lived with my rents my mom was super-social. We knew almost all the neighbors on our street for the longest time. Then a few moved away and we got older and eventually we moved too. Can't say I'm that social.

I remember anything that happened to me good/bad the whole neighborhood knew it before I did. I guess that was a good way to keep me from being a troublemaker. Not only have to deal with 'rents but 50 other people asking you wtf you did. :D

I agree. Sitting in your room (probably browsing ATOT or playing games) is the worst thing one can do. If you don't, you'll most likely regret it because it's tough meeting people in a classroom setting.

As neighbors go, we have a hot blonde neighbor (I think she's 18) across the street that my roommate tried to get to know. Let's just say he wasn't very smooth and now she has him blocked on AIM (and will probably never talk to him ever again). :D

I did when I lived in a much smaller town. Oddly enough I know the people on the street next to mine better then those nextdoor. I used to be able to walk in their house without knocking. No one does that anymore.

Yup, I know my neighbours and it turns out they are really nice for the most part.

In fact, I helped my neighbor across the street build his barbeque last week. :)

Most of my neighbors are business owners or teachers so they are rarely home. The way my lot is set up I actually have 6 neighbors joining my lot...I did become good friends with one but he ended up moving out of state.
