Do you know anyone who won the lottery?

My dad has won a few thousand over the years but he's played a lot. It's a big waste of money. He's wasted more money than he's won.

back in the mid 90s a group of people i knew at rockford fosgate won a couple mil lottery here in az. they went in on monday and quit, the way most people dream of. only to find out that there were like 18 other winners besides the 8 person group they were and the per person shares were less than 100k each. most went back and begged for their jobs back, lol.

Not personally. My coworker's best friend's mother won a couple million. Seriously.

I spent $1 on an instant win ticket once, and got $5 back. The lottery is a tax on people who can't do math.

A guy I knew in college won the Win For Life scratch game his junior year. Lucky bastard gets $1,000 a week for the rest of his life!

Strangely the same. Perhaps you went to my high school, that would be weird. Anyway, he was kind of a dick though, he wouldn't even buy his girlfriend lunch in the mall. I've no idea what happened to him.

I think that's probably one of the best ways to win the lottery, hard to blow a huge amount on something stupid right off.

Are you in Virginia, too?

The people across the street from me won millions. They wasted it all on retarded shit and ended up losing their house.

Idiots.
Thats the standard. People who have lots of money handed to them rarely know what to do with it so they piss it all away. Then when it comes time to pay income tax or tax on all the crap they bought (if applicable) they are screwed.

I always promised myself if I came into a lot of money the first thing I'd do is talk to an investment counciler immediately.

You have to be careful about choosing an advisor, because many of them are also salesmen who will try to talk you into using your money to buy their often subpar investment products, which will land them a nice big commission.

Nope. At the time, I was in Upstate NY. Weird. We all sort of suspected his dad might actually have "won" but gave the ticket to him because he was younger.

Strange coincidence though.

Thats always a problem with any financial advisor. Bad advice. Shady advice. Scam advice. Its nothing special. I would have to deal with it like I deal with all professionals in my life.

Exactly if you win the lottery the first thing you should do is hire a financial planner.

Or you can just put it all in FDIC insured CDs and live off the interest.

Aunt won $25K about 15 years ago. I know several persons who've won $500 ~ $5000 (a couple more than once), but no one that has won big money.

I used to date a girl that love to play the slot tournament at the casinos and she was pretty good at that.

The most I ever won was $100 from the Powerball lottery <4 white numbers> and $20 at the casinos.

I don't know anyone in real life that won big bucks <milllion dollars>.

She must be talented.

A fellow my dad worked with in the NYFD won NY's very first lottery, I think it was 777,777.00 He continued to work for about three days, when a brass fitting blew off of a hose and flew right at his head. He ducked just in time, and the nozzle practically went through his helmet. He quit that very same day.

Peace

Yep. Used to work with someone who won big in the Florida Lottery. She opened up her own business after she got her check.

Hilarious thing: She had to go up to Tallahasee to pick up the check. She asked her boss for time off so she could drive up there to pick up the check. He wouldn't give it to her. We were all like: "Screw it! You just won the lottery! Quit!" but she didn't want to burn the bridge until she had the money in her hand AND knew what she was going to do with it.

How much did she keep?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking how much she saved from her winnings? Or are you asking how much she got after taxes?

ME! I bought a $5 ticket last week and won $2! At this rate, I'm gonna be able to retire in...Oh SNAP! that's a negative return on investment...🙁

😀

my brother's former college roommate's parents hit the lotto mega millions, they won like 10 millions, but they were already rich. so no change to that guy's trust fund.
