Not personally, but a former employee of a company I worked for won close to 8million. He ended up changing his phone numbers and moving out of state because people hounded him so much...mainly his relatives.

An guy down the street from my parents won close to 10 million and gave half to his girlfriend...idiot...wonder if they are still together...

Most I ever won was 100 bucks on a stratch ticket.

If I won Millions of dollars, I would probably just keep 10-20K of it and give the rest away. There is nothing like living day by day trying to survive. I dont think I could just sit down all day and do nothing that produced results.

I knew one person who one 100K but they blew it on hookers and blow or something similar.

I don't think the retailer gets anything from lottery. Their payoff is getting people in the store making impulse purchases. I could be wrong, but that's how I understood it to work.

They get a few cents per ticket, it's nothing big. It might vary by state. And as someone else mentioned, they get bonuses for selling high value winning tickets.

I met someone in my neighborhood who just moved in. He claimed that his family won the lotto and moved into this new house.

Besides that my parents won a couple hundred if that.

My roommate's mom won $92million in the lottery. Spent a month with a bunch of financial advisers before she went to claim the prize. Walked away with ~$50million after taxes & stuff.

I won $1,100 something fm the CA Lotto like 3 years ago.

The bad thing was...it's an office pool of 10 peeps and the guy we asked to collect wanted some more money so he can cover the added tax resulting from the increase in his income.:frown:

His accountant calculated how much our individual share was and in the end, all I got was a measly $80.:|

This lady that I know took a whole roll of lotto tickets from a mom and pops store she worked at. She gave all the tickets to her sister who then played them and split whatever they won 50/50. She was also stealing money from register too. Yeah, she doesn't work there anymore.

I think lottery is a fraud, nobody ever win a lot of money in the lottery.

Do you actually know someone who won big in the lottery?

Those who think the lottery is a fraud without any proof beyond "I've never heard of anybody winning" don't get statistics. It's about the numbers. When the odds are 1/20,000,000 well let's just say you aren't realistically ever going to know anybody who wins it.

I know a guy that won a big lottery back east and built a ranch here in Wyoming. He's retired and doing fine now. Nice people also.

My ex had a friend whose parent won something like 4 million on a scratch ticket. They bought an entire roll of tickets, took them home and scratched them all day.

Idiots.
Thats the standard. People who have lots of money handed to them rarely know what to do with it so they piss it all away. Then when it comes time to pay income tax or tax on all the crap they bought (if applicable) they are screwed.

I always promised myself if I came into a lot of money the first thing I'd do is talk to an investment counciler immediately.

When I was working at 7-11 there were a couple of women addicted to scratch tickets. One was a waitress at a restaurant about a block down. She would often spend upwards of $40 - 60 a day on scratch tickets. Story was she won $10,000 a year or two before that. Well she's spend WAY more than that since then of course.

Dateline had a special on TV of lottery retailers telling the customer they did not win, then they keep the ticket for themselves. Busted!

Wow...

This became a big scandal in Canada. A math prof at a university decided to run the numbers on who was winning jackpots and it turned out that retailers were cashing in on winnings far too0 often. The lotto corp came down like a tone of bricks on retailers to save face for a problem that was largely of their own making. For years they just turned a blind eye to the problem and had lotter scanning machines set up so that you could, for instance, turn the volume off so customers couldn't hear that they had won. Now to get a licence to sell lottery tickets you have to almost register your dog and give them your first born son.

I found a $1000 lottery ticket in the trash once. But I'm not stupid enough to actually pay for a lottery ticket.

I used to date a girl that love to play the slot tournament at the casinos and she was pretty good at that.

The most I ever won was $100 from the Powerball lottery <4 white numbers> and $20 at the casinos.

I don't know anyone in real life that won big bucks <milllion dollars>.
