Do you know anyone who spends ALL their money, mostly wasting it.

Couple of my colleagues here are from wealthy families so they basically don't have to worry about making a living. In one case one guys lives in a house his parents bought for his sister (a million dollar home though in Vancouver that could just be a run down shack on some land) the other lives with his brother, again in a house his parents bought for them. They don't live off of a bank account their parents provide them or anything but they don't have any worries either. They have a car, cell phone and some other expenses but that's it. I'm basically in the same situation only my parents aren't rich (I still live at home with them and don't really have any of my own expenses). In some ways I'd guess you could say I'm worse since I don't even pay for food most of the time. However I do save most of my money (I've spent over 10,000 on computer hardware and HT stuff over the years but I've save over 60k as well).

The thing is these guys spend the money they earn REALLY freely. One guy has a $5000 computer that he's constantly upgrading, also has a diamond earing and wears designer cloths. The other guy is similar. Again I've spent similar money on my computer but don't spend any money on anything else and basically save the rest. Anyone know others who spend REALLY freely? Whether they have the money or not? Maybe they are just living on huge credit card debt?

Note I know it sounds like I'm being critical and judging these people I'm NOT I just want to hear some other fun stories about similar people. I'm in NO place to judge them obviously.

I'm not wasting my money. I'm supporting A LOT of single moms and young women earning money for college.

most the people i know who spend REALLY freely or STUPIDLY as i'd say, don't have it to spend, living off credit cards, or will go through phases of having money and blowing it, then being "broke", then repeat....

not me, i dont splurge unless its something i REALLY want. or need. don't just go blowing it for no good cause. only time i do that is on travel 😛

I'm 24 and I spend freely (for now) I live on my own with a 3BR 2BA house on the beach. I buy just about anything I want as long as I have the funds for it ( I stay away from credit as much as possible) I spend almost everything I make, figure there will always be time to save.

Also who knows how long we all have - would hate to be frugal all my life, build up a fortune then die before I could spend any of it.

EDIT - Do not have wealthy parents, earn about 60K a year, and the only savings I have are old bonds and cd's - and way to save by wachovia (about 9k in there)

Do you personally know any people like the former? What did they buy?

There's balance in everything. If you don't have any savings at all, the next crisis that hits you (and one will eventually) will hit you like a mac truck. That said one shouldn't be a penny pincher. Spend as much as reasonable to enjoy life within your means.

Now that I have a good paying job I'm spending quite freely. Not beyond my means as it's all just straight out of the bank, but still. There is some that's going into 401k but most is spent on fun things. What else is money for but to spend it? It's the reason I work...

I'm trying to slow down as I SHOULD have some savings for when things go wrong, but I'm not that worried. My biggest unexpected expenses were car related before, and now that I have a new car that's not really an issue.

What's in that 5k computer?

Mine is only 5k ifyou include the monitor and that was bought some years back. See my Sig for specs. His I can't remember the details but he has a Thermaltake level 10 case, Intel 980x, 3 gtx 570s I believe, 24 gb of RAM , large solid state drive etc etc. He says he is looking at upgrading to 2 590s. lol
