Just curious....a chick in my Social and Political group drives a IS300......turns out her bf bought it for her :Q I'm just surprised at the lengths people will go to to get someone to like them. (I don't mean to ask this if you're married.....just a boyfriend/girlfriend thing - anyone you know)
 
I suppose if you're rich enough, yea. That's one hell of a disposable income though to be blowing on someone who may not be with you in X months though
 
My brother-in-law had a gf that bought him a firebird. They broke up like 6 months later, and she sued him to get it back. She lost. 😀
 
Even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy my SO a car unless they were in a bind and needed one. By the same token, if a girl bought me a car, I would have a really tough time accepting it without asking her to marry me.

I'll be buying a car for my fiance here in the not so distant future. She's getting a new full time job and I won't be able to drop her off anymore.
 
Fiance is understandable....there's a definite future

rg - I'm with you on that. I wouldn't mind spending the money on reliable transportation if really necessary and if there's a future there, but maybe something affordable. I was shocked when I found out it was an IS300 he had bought her ($35k)
 
One of my goods friends bought his gf a car. After they broke up he got his car back and now he holds down two car payments a month!!
 
I hanvt, but a lot of people in those Jaguar and Lexus commercials do! They even buy comically oversized bows to put on top of them.
 
i'm in the process of doing that right now. Thou i'm just looking for a beater to get her from point A to point B. looks don't matter, only that it drives and is mechanically sound.
 
I used to mess around with a girl that made her ex sign a contract that if he didn't marry her in 5 years, he had to buy her a new car not to exceed $x. All kinds of messed up. Mind you I wasn't with her while they were together since they broke up 1 year after the contract was signed, but I found it very funny that I got to have "realations" with her while the clock ticked away on the contract. I never did hear what happened with them. She put on about 100lbs since I broke up with her and I know she's not married, but other than that I'm clueless. He was pretty loaded so I don't see how it would be unthinkable for it to have happened.

I personally would never buy my gf a car unless we were at least engaged.
 
Hmm.. When (we) buy a brand new car, it will be considered both of ours, and we will both help with the payments.

IMO, that's the way it should be. High maintenance women suck. 😛

Is that a gf you're talking about or a wife? Wives don't count because there's a legal bond there. What if you buy a car with your gf and she leaves you after you pay it off. Get ready for court.

We're basically engaged. I'm not worried about it, we're in for the long haul. 🙂

Will deal with it when it ever comes up.

 
knew a person who bought his gf a auto rx-7, he modded to make it the fastest auto in socal, they broke up an he just took it back.
asians dont take people to court, they just get all they're 'friends' and family to stare you down!

he also bought a bmw 540, didn't like it so he gave it to his little sis.

btw...he own'ts a publishing company so i guess he's pretty loaded.

I bought a Camry LE V6 (used) for my Wife. She was a S.O. at the time. She couldn't move in with me until she had a better car (hers was a P.O.S.) It's all about the compromises. She got a car and moved in with me, I got a housekeeper... uh, er,... wife. 😀 Seriously, it all balanced out, and still does.



 
I've bought someone I was dating or otherwise involved with a car a few times. Not a big deal; I wouldn't imagine it's all that unusual.
