Do you know any Athiest people that believes in ghosts or Karma?

Ex-girlfriend of mine was an atheist but she was adamant that ghosts existed and that she'd had supernatural experiences. She also believed in ESPN and stuff like that. Strange girl.

I'm undecided on ghosts. I don't think they're dead people, but I think there may be /something/ there. I give lip service to karma, and use the word, but I don't believe in it as a supernatural phenomenon. Karma's just a convenient philosophy for not fucking people over, and propagating good through the world.

Yes.

It's called Newton's Third Law of Motion.

I think everybody believes in ESPN.

Well, if I didn't believe in ESPN, how else would I get irrelevant talking heads about sports for 23 hours a day?

It would seem to be inconsistent to be an atheist and yet believe in other unverifiable supernatural phenomena. While only explicitly a statement regarding religion, being an atheist is also an indicator that a person has certain exacting criteria that needs to be met before they will believe something. If religion fails the test, then things like ghosts and karma probably would as well.

Nah. It's not possible. Why would any sensible person reject gods and religion but accept some mundane nonsense like ghosts and shit? Surely not someone with any principled basis for his or her rejection of gods.

yeah this.

A monotheist god as portrayed in abrahamitic religions is actually much more believable than ghosts or other paranormal stuff because it doesn't imply a direct effect on the physical world.

I do NOT believe in ESPN, there's no scientific proof it exists, it's only a theory. I know this is true because I turned on my TV and I did NOT see ESPN.

There's the religious definition of karma, where it affects your future lives.

There's a looser, more secular definition of karma of "as you sow, so shall ye reap" which (without invoking fate or gods) can just mean that your actions may eventually have indirect long-term consequences.
