Do you keep newspapers and magazines after big events?

I was over at my parents house today and I saw they had a paper from the Columbia distaster on the table. I asked and my mom said "Well we are keeping it... don't know why, we just are. We've got one from 911 too."

I was thinking about that I used to keep papers, etc, but I don't anymore. It all just starts to pile up after awhile and I figure it won't really be worth anything any time soon. As for the historical value, this is a local paper... so it's not like it's a great source for information. 🙂

What do you guys think?

It'll be something nice to show your grandkids, but since I don't have any where to store stuff for 50 years, I don't worry about it.

Funny you asked... I kept the edition if the local paper for years after the Challenger exploded. Not sure what happened to it, but I don't have it anymore. It's sentimental more than anything.

It depends on the event. I did after 9/11, and i think my parents have some somewhere for the queens golden jubilee. I always make sure i buy magazine that have reviews or pictures of something i attended (concerts mainly), just in case i happen to be in one of the photos 🙂

i still have all my newsweeks from the gulf war as well as newspapers including the one that said "It's War!" in huge letters
i also kept all of the nolan ryan no hitters/5000th strikeout papers through his reign as a texas ranger

I kept jpegs from 9/11 and will probably do so for another events that occur 'close to home'. jpegs have a very small footprint. I would never save papers.

I keep them as a memorial, like I keep obiturarys and articles about ones I have lost.
For instance, a good friend of mine was shot with his brother by his dad just shortly before he shot himself. I still have all the articles about that incident.
