I've used it for probably 10+ years. Used to be in one channel all the time when I belonged to the Final Fantasy Mailing List (FFML). Then I started playing Planetarion and everyone met in IRC. Years later, I rarely use it.

mIRC?

I used to use mIRC, maybe 10 years ago.

I run into IRC all the time though, as port 6667 is being pumped through our network constantly, mostly for things like keyloggers and other nasty worms.

I only hang out in the dattebayo anime chat on animenfo, and another related channel on Rizon.

I'd feel naked if I didnt go there at least once a day to show my face.

Yeah, but only on a friend's personal server. It had been years since I had used IRC until he set up his own. I had heard rumors of an AT irc server, but could never find it.

As for a client, I use XChat on all my boxes. When not using a gui, I usually stick with irssi.

don't even have an irc client on my computer.

I used it during college for pirated crap after they blocked napster/kazaa/morpheus, but I haven't used it since then.

I have one monitor which has mIRC up all the time on a few networks.
Partly FPS gaming, partly anime channels.
Usually the FPS channels are for general chat, and the anime stuff is for downloading and subbing, not so much general chat.

I quit for a few years, but now have irc.freenode.org as my new home 🙂

irc.freenode.org is the only server I use.

There a number of great channels on their for open source help.

#ubuntu
#wine
etc

I use mIRC for a couple of the reef forums I frequent. I prefer that to the java chat applets so many of them have nowadays.
