Do you install recommended updates?

Yes and I haven't had problems with those updates. Only rarely I'll have an issue with an update but it's one of the critical ones.

Normally, yes. On rare occasions there are exceptions, but they are very rare.

I update manually but I normally install all updates but Silverlight, Skype and the Malicious software removal tool. Most should install the latter though.

Edit: I also won't install drivers from microsoft. I prefer to get those myself.

Just the Critical ones at first.

Then I read the Microsoft knowledge base articles on the recommended ones before installing them. If it's something relating to things I never do on my machine I don't install it.

BTW, Malicious Software Removal Tool is a system scan for malware - nothing is really installed. There is a new one every month. It takes a bit of time.

I install it all. No fuss no muss. Getting up there in age I don't want to think about it like I did when I was younger. Windows 10 installed with latest updates ready for when it goes gold/RTM. :)

In another 10 years I won't remember how to reformat and dual boot windows so I'll be SOL.

Yes I'm aware. If the darn thing had a gui or just show a pop-up with the results I would let it run. I don't like the idea of a malware scanner running and then it not bother telling me the results. To me it's next to worthless. I wouldn't recommend everyone skip running it though. I guess it useful to someone.
