Wow...

Because "You're an asshole" is just filled to the brim with etiquette 😉 .

good example was yesterday i was walking out of wendy's with two large frosites <one in each hand> and i open the door with my elbows and this chick litteraly runs in, followed by her mom who said thank you. then i proceed to the second door kinda akward to open it too, and then 3 young guys rush in also don't say a word, but they are followed by the dad who says thanks.. i figured out it was a whole family and they where in some serious hurry to get some burgers, hehe but at least they coud of like helped me with the door not waited for me to open it and hold it for them, i did not mind it was just akward.

I hold doors for people and all that polite stuff, because that's just how I was raised, and I expect the same from other strangers. And it does irritate me when others dont share the same kindness.

I totally agree. Despite the mini-rant, I don't do it for the props. It's literally second-nature for me. Similarly, when someone is holding the door for me I don't piss around like some people do. If you're nice enough to hold the door for me, I'm going to move my ass rather than make you just stand there like a tool.

Demanding a "thank you" is far worse manners and far less polite than not holding the door open to begin with. I hereby nominate Jbourne77 for the 2006 worst manners/etiquette award.

Cool. Notoriety!

OMG ASSHOL3 OF THE YEAR!!!!!

😉

I kind of feel like Jbourne.
If people go out of their way to be disgustingly rude to me, it sort of kills my incentive to be disgustingly polite.

Its weird how people react too.
Like in some of the stories here. If you do one thing thats polite people expect it from you as a constant and will walk all over you. But the first time you act like an asshole (i.e. like them) they get a shocked look and their little brains just cant fathom how you could do that.

Fvck it, while I'm on a rant thats another problem with society. Way too many assholes. Especially assholes who dont know their place in the world. It amazes me how many of them think they are the only assholes in the world. They honestly believe that out of 6 billion souls, they are the only ones entitled to be assholes.
Sorry buddy, but you're not special. And if you dont employ me or you dont have a gun/taser/cattle prod, you damn well better learn that you're not special.

I like it whenever George Costanza busts out and takes a stand against rudeness, it makes me feel hope for the world.

Depends on the occasion and environment.... considering this is ATOT... I thought I was perfectly inline with proper etiquette...

For the record though... You aren't owed a thankyou for not slamming the door in someone's face... it's common courtesy to hold the door that extra second as you walk through... go watch Chris Rock's difference between black people and n****** You expect to be congratulated for sh!t that you're SUPPOSED to do.

Fvcking hilarious stuff. "You're SUPPOSED to take care of your kids!"

Common courtesy doesn't exist that much these days.. rude people are the majority nowdays..

For example.. Saturday on the boardwalk at Ocean City
My wife and I were walking, hand in hand.. I was on the left.. wife on the right.. on her right side were other people walking.. in the same direction.

Now, facing us, walking toward us were a bunch of "thug wanna be" college kids. Now, if you've been to the boardwalk, you know its fairly wide.. wide enough for more than a dozen people to walk side-by-side.
To my wife's right, there wasn't much room to sway to that side..
These kids, made it out of their way, to walk even more toward us.. as if to attempt to make us have to move out of the way.. sorry bucko..
I commenced to walking in my path.. the little twerp walked, and bumped right into my left shoulder. Myself.. I continued walking, with little resistance. I turned around and he was flaring his arms with an attitude, like I was in the wrong..

urgh..

lol. Reminds me of Dodgeball when Ben Stiller walks out of his office with Vince Vaughn like a foot behind him following and he slams the door shut.

I always hold the door open. I'm not looking for a thank you.

i try my best to always hold the door open and never expect anyone to say thank you or to hold a door open for me. I do it to set a good example to my daughter and feel good about myself.

also what kind of moron walks so close someone not paying attention that they walk into the door?

I hold the door open for people, but to be honest I prefer people to not hold the door open for me, especially if i'm more than a few steps behind. It creates that awkward "oh great now i've got to walk quicker so this guy doesn't look like a dope standing there for too long to hold the door open for me." Not to mention I don't consider it rude for someone to not hold the door open for me, and it's not a problem for me to open up the door myself.

i always hold the door open. ppl sometimes say thanks and sometimes not. but as otwell said, it's not the reason that i opened the door.

It's also common courtesy to say 'thank you'. By your same logic, you aren't owed having the door held for you either, so next time it's thrashed in your face, just think back to this thread 😉 .
