Do you have your own custom bootable CD?

This topic has not been discussed before, as far as I can tell. I need to know how to make one (using Nero). My FDD is dead, I want to throw all my utils on it (like deltree, fdisk, format, etc) and pqmagic8 program. Can someone explain to me what "image file" is in a Nero bootable cd-rom? Is it an image of the core dos system files? Also, after I figure that out, do I just copy the files I need off my hd to the CD, and that will be fine? And lastly, I need to make sure that drivers will be loaded for my CDROM to be accessable.

I'm also looking for suggestions as to what other utils to put on the CD, other than the above mentioned.

Thanks in advance,
Sean

The image Nero wants is a disk image of a floppy (sort of like an ISO for a CD).

You can find images of bootdisks online at places like bootdisk.com. WinImage can insert or remove files from disk images.

Nero's floppy emulation does just that: it creates a virtual floppy drive that acts like a real floppy drive. And just like a floppy bootdisk, you have to have CD-ROM drivers to access the CD-ROM drive.

I took an image off of bootdisk.com (98SE w/o RAMdisk), that included all the dos utils i needed. then i added pqmagic8 and ghost.exe, and burned to CDRW. now i have one kick ass boot disk that i can upgrade later on! screw floppies!

I made one for myself a long time ago with all sorts of utilities.

I started with a the old "CDROM god" floppy boot disk that has all kinds of cdrom drivers, then added in dos utilities and standards freeware windows apps I use. Even put an 80 minute techno mp3 mix and desktop wallpapers on it :D (essential!) I don't remember how I did it since it was so long ago, but your post reminded me about it... I always get a chuckle about my music on the boot disk.

Ohh, no fair. you used a CDRW! Time to make a new boot disk ;)

I started to make one, but I had so little use for it I stopped and created a second root filesystem so I could just boot to that when I have problems so I can fix my main root filesystem.

I don't really need one. I can just boot off of any old linux or bsd cd and get a shell. It's worked for me great so far.
