You can't click OK without agreeing to the EULA...I re-read it on the MS website, and some of that is pure crap. Did you know that only 10 workstations may connect to a computer running XP Pro?! WTF? Even then, they can only print, share files, Info services, and remote access...

The Product may not be used by more than two (2) processors at any one time on any single Workstation Computer. You may permit a maximum of ten (10) computers or other electronic devices (each a "Device") to connect to the Workstation Computer to utilize the services of the Product solely for File and Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote access (including connection sharing and telephony services). The ten connection maximum includes any indirect connections made through "multiplexing" or other software or hardware which pools or aggregates connections. Except as otherwise permitted by the NetMeeting, Remote Assistance, and Remote Desktop features described below, you may not use the Product to permit any Device to use, access, display or run other executable software residing on the Workstation Computer, nor may you permit any Device to use, access, display, or run the Product or Product's user interface, unless the Device has a separate license for the Product.

^^Guess that rules out Dual Core...CAN'T USE XP ON AN ATHLON X2!!! OMGWTFBBQCONSPIRACYMSISTEHSUXORSPROFITLOTS!!

Really? I read that MS is claiming that no key has been refused that is legal...Bunch of liars...I work at a school, and this summer I reformatted and put XP Pro (we bought TONS of licenses) on them all (About 50 in all using the same key)...I wonder if any of them will pass...

If you NEED this consider getting DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

The first 10 or 15 XP VLK keys that hit the scene were stolen by employees of companies that bought the licenses - those were all refused. from *SERVICE PACK 1* - of course, upon presenting the authenticity certificates to MS, they were issued a new key - which they then had to redeploy.

Not at all actually. But I just did and I must say that your case would be an exception and not the rule. My educated guess is that 9/10 ATers that oppose WGA do so because their copy is pirated.

Amusingly, I just changed one of my machines to an illegitimate key and it works just fine

Well, at any rate, so much for buying Windows server. And Vista. They can eat a cack next generation, the foolishness stops here.

Call them? If you have a legit copy or are using one provided from the action pack then you should have free basic phone support. They actually *are* generally knowledgable at Microsoft, from what I gathered during the one call I had to make. :)

Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people are using one of the hacked corp keys for XP, those users are the ones who are foolish. People shell out the cash for expensive video cards and fast processors, but won't pay the $80 or whatever for an XP license. That's the only foolish thing going on.

You're exceedingly ignorant. XP Pro sees dual core processors as two physical processors. The newest P4EE is also fine under that license, because it uses two physical processors and two virtual ones (hyperthreading). It's cool to hate.

No machine serving more than 10 computers should be running XP pro, period. I can't imagine a scenario where that would be necessary, outside of either maybe something like a lan party or the intented corporate environment where a server OS should already be being used. Even at a lan, it's good to have an actual server to host a networked game.

Actually, XP Pro is $150 OEM. Like $130 or something VLK without media.

And I'm just sick of having to prove to companies that I own something - and more often than not, it gets me nowhere. EA games - legitimate purchases never seen to play on my system because of copy protection. Call and bitch, they don't care. Microsoft, while they may make things right, aren't making things any easier for legit users, and they sure as fsck aren't making things harder on the pirates.

I was actually kidding about the Dual Core CPUs...I was having this talk with a former computer teacher at work today, and we were discussing this very issue...That's how I read the EULA with him...

True about LAN parties...It is good to have a server, but most of the parties that I've been to have ~10 people there...A server isn't really necessary (we use gigabit switches and most have nice computers, ie P4 @ ~3 GHz, Athlon 64s, minimum of 1GB RAM, ect)...No lag or problems what-so-ever...

I 100% agree about EA. They're the worst software company in the country as far as I'm concerned. (This coming from someone who loves bf2)

Microsoft will like you said fix things. It sucks, but they do lose a lot of money to piraters. Not having a lot of disposable income budgeted for software makes virtually every 'do-it-yourself' teenager pirate, at least that I know. I'm glad that I can get student copies of Windows, but I will definitely buy them once I 'get a haircut and a real job.' :p

Just to clarify, I was talking more about scsi disks, which would provide the benefit of being able to serve maps or something like that to a bunch of users at a time without slowing down the server. Dual cpus might be of use there too, especially if it servers as a file server as well. Normal pcs do work fine like you said, and I would never actually buy a rackmount or something like that to host a game of cs for my friends, but they do have virtues :p
