Do you have to swear on the Bible before taking the stand?

You don;t even have to do it for jury duty. I thought they would not use me but before I could say anything they juts said you don't have to swear on the bible if you don't want to.
 
If you're the defendant it's probably a better idea to swear on it anyway, since the jury is likely to be made up of at least 9-10 christers

I have placed many witnesses under oath over the years (in military courts, the prosecutor does it), and never had anyone refuse to swear to God. I am not religious, but have sworn to God on the rare occasions in which I have testified.
