Do you have to refrigerate a cake when you bake it? How long do they last sitting outside the refrigerator? Used butter, egg, water, ect if it matters.

Usually they don't last long enough to need refrigeration

Yes you should if you don't plan on eating it, which in that case there must be something wrong with you. What kind of cake are we talking about btw? I may need to inspect this cake...

You don't have to unless the icing is buttercream or the filling is dairy or would need to be refrigerated.

Generally, I don't refrigerate cakes. I made a Tres Leches cake once, though, and because of the milky mixture that I poured over the cake after it was baked, it needed to be refrigerated.

So pretty much what CalvinHobbes said.

Well between me and my GF it can last 2-3 days. I don't sit down and eat half of it in a sitting :D. I was just wondering because I cake ain't as good cold. Of course I never tried putting it in the microwave to warm it up so I don't know how that is.

I normally refrigerate them but I got to looking in some of these bakeries and see alot of them just have the cakes sitting out that you can buy.

I guess with butter in the cake mix you would need to refrigerate it?

For me personally, I like cold cake, and during the summer months coming up, if your house is warm, keeping it in the refridge, will help it last longer. Depending on how many eat it. I prefer mine in the fridge, yes.

You will not have any problems leaving the cake out for 2-3 days, just keep it covered so it doesn't dry out. We always leave cakes out of the fridge.

Treat cake like you would bread. When it turns green, trow it out.
